Welcome to the JMP Development Update for August 11, 2023!
We are three weeks past JMP 18 feature freeze and have also reached our freeze date for JMP 18 EA5. Thanks for all the help cleaning up your remaining Story and Epic items with Planned Version = 18.0 that are no longer active for this feature cycle. If you are still working on epic or story items that are not yet represented on the JMP 18 Late Features page, please add them ASAP so that downstream teams, development managers and product managers can keep informed about progress towards feature completion.
Please update your JMP 18 individual feature pages by Tuesday, August 15, and remove any out-of-date information that is no longer valid or relevant to your current work. Mia says that she greatly appreciates the many recorded EA videos that people have already submitted for features that are complete or nearing completion!
Thanks very much to Tonya Mauldin for sharing this week’s beta/crash tracks with crashes selected!

Audrey Shull shared this Jira Tip of the Week: Thanks to Brian Corcoran for adding Atlassian Intelligence to our Jira and Confluence instances. From his announcement – Atlassian Intelligence is a beta program from Atlassian that enables natural language queries in Jira, and some more enhanced content creation capabilities in Confluence. The Confluence capabilities are more extensive than those for Jira, and are covered well in this video. Capabilities include content generation of lists, summaries, and more “professional” writing. You invoke the capabilities by using /ai when editing new content. For Jira, the capability revolves around viewing Issues under either List or Detailed View. You can click the snowflake icon to invoke the AI editor, and then type in natural language queries such as “Show me Jira issues created by Brian Corcoran”.

JMP Development Updates
Interns
- Maddi Malsleben: One of my intern projects this summer was to create a high-level overview course of account-based marketing. My Basics of Account-Based Marketing course has been published and is now available to take here on Saba.
Host
- John Schroedl: Starting research into using Group Policy to allow corporations using Active Directory to modify default JMP behaviors for an entire company/dept/group/etc. First application will be to control telemetry collection and avoid prompting each employee (JMP-17858). Updated to latest Telerik assembly versions. Updated JMP previewer with latest zlib library. Changed FileSpec::dlgPickNew behavior to have a default file extension based on the selected filter. Removed SAS Code filter in window list.
- Michael H: Apple fixed the flipped sticky layer bug in macOS Sonoma Beta 5. I removed my temporary fix because now it was causing the problem instead of fixing it. Worked on performance improvements for Tables > Anonymize command. On my M1 MacBook Pro, anonymizing a 3M row x 33 col data table went from 12.0 seconds to 4.0 seconds. Also fixed display of current marker / line style in custom menus on Mac.
Interactive HTML
JMP Live
- Aurora: Continued work on folder level access. Allowed a replaced report to use a new-to-it JMP Live data table. Fixed a bug in deleting a post published by a since-deleted user. Along with the rest of JMP Live, did a whitebox testing day.
Statistics
- Laura C-S: Finally pushed the new SEM bootstrap feature. The option brings up a popup for users to select a set of statistics to bootstrap in one fell swoop, making the common bootstrapping operation in SEM much faster and less tedious (it used to take at least 6 context-menu bootstraps before getting desired results). There will still be details that need to be polished but I look forward to start getting feedback for this in EA5. Met with Hamid to discuss SEM doc updates, and with James to work on our Discovery presentation.
- Elizabeth: Wrapped up implementation of saved interval formulas for mixed models across the various personalities with a fix for SLS-REML (JMP-17482). Now chasing down a bug with the formulas with R-side structures and missing values in Mixed that is challenging due to differing results in Debug vs Release. Pushed a fix so that saving the validation information used in SVM when a By group is specified works (JMP-17521). Working on some string use issues in SVM related to Evan’s “Save Scripts in English” project.
- John Sall: Repair and extend Fit Least Squares to show the uncoded estimates when there are regressors with the Coded column property (JMP-17797). Work more on Sparse and Nonnegative PCA using Clay's routines - maybe not quite ready for EA5, though (JMP-8539).
- Annie: Continued working on adding support for importing, exporting, and displaying Spec Limits for Control Chart Builder charts with phases.
- Kasia: Tackling bugs all week. Jacob and I have been doing a deeper dive into the issues in Make Validation Column.
Stat Documentation
- Hamid: Met with Laura Castro-Schilo and discussed new tasks regarding the SEM chapter and how I will work on the documentation part. I also met with Colleen to learn more about how to work on my year-round projects, especially the SEM chapter. Moreover, I finished the draft for the Mediation Analysis and sent it to Laura for her review. Finally, I did some work on the comments and revisions regarding projects I did receive.
- Karen: Started work on DOE chapters and this week we worked to review material for one another ahead of the EA build.
Stat Testing
- Jacob: Testing CSALT Design. Preparing and testing usability study add-ins for EA5. Analyzing results of the Easy DOE Model tab usability study. Answering questions from JMP Technical support.
- Tonya: Testing spec limits for phases in CCB and bug verification.
Technical Support
- Duane: This has been a busy week for us, as many have been on vacation this week. Everyone else stepped up and covered our support areas and kept cases moving forward. I have been unable to update the reports today, but they will be updated as soon as the site is available. They will be found here: TS JMP Live reports and here’s a link to the Jira filter showing the tickets reported by TS for the last 14 days
Development Operations

Completed Python script changes for all ten daily UT machines and saved new AMIs/updated Jenkins project. Updated all mac OS JMP 18.0 installers to account for Platform Presets rename and samples updates. Thanks Dan and Qiana!
- Myron: Automating sample data processing with Jenkins (JMPTOOL-505). JiraBot additions and updates (JMPTOOL-914, JMPTOOL-920, JMPTOOL-919, JMPTOOL-918, JMPTOOL-922, JMPTOOL-880. Worked to update/separate telemetry export jobs (JMPTOOL-917). Worked on JiraBot UI.
- Melanie: Worked with Myron on automating sample data processing – in progress. Updated Jira tickets and Confluence pages. In AWS migration news, we are now down to 100 active jobs running on jmptool – 15 jobs are currently not running, and 23 have been moved to AWS and completely removed from jmptool.
- Bob: Now that QA has approved 17.2 set of installers, work to get the installers in all the correct places for the various download systems. Work with Life Sciences to be sure that we will use the updaters for 17.2. Verify final changes for software download text from SAS systems.
Documentation
- Chris B: Tracked down the source of the startrelease value override in our 17.2 builds (which means we can find and correct it for the 18 AWS build). JMP-13936: tracked down why the help page descriptions are blank (we have a framescript to fix). JMP-16705: Worked on how to better communicate the 18.0 path changes for add-ins and applications. Editing some of the Scripting Guide. Diagnosed a problem with the DE DJ help images. Had a good meeting with some SAS folks about the oXygen XML editor.
- Susan: Created a version of the Work Smarter tips in a presentation. Got Camtasia downloaded (investigating video as a possible alternative to animated gifs for the Quick Start). In process of accessing our Mac machine to verify the Quick Start content. Reviewed Devon’s Platform Presets chapter. Working on UI string edits from July 29 - Aug 5. Tested the production script reset project created by Nick.
- Devon: Added draft of Platform Presets (fka Templates) chapter to UG in time for EA5, created Jiras to track that work: JMPDOC-2006: Add Platform Presets chapter to UG and JMPDOC-2008: Add Platform Preset JSL messages to JSR, began doc team review of chapter, started work on JMP-17435: String Col Edit Box, Set Width Message not documented in Scripting Guide or JSL Syntax Reference.

- Hunter: Installed Sonoma 14.0 Dev. Beta 5 on the Apple Silicon and Intel host testing Macs is the lab and discovered that Apple has fixed the issue that contributed to the inverted sticky titles in JMP-16991. Tested Michael’s update in JMP 18 that reverted the prior workaround for JMP-16991. Investigating one JMP 18 EA 4 track. Trying to reproduce a crash I encountered saving an updated project file to my OneDrive folder.
- Mike M: Worked through 17.0 Chinese JMP Live help issues again. Made a couple recommendations for new and fixed redirects. Opened several bugs for HTML5 after reviewing image diffs for Cell Plot support. Trying to keep up with verifications, but falling behind a bit.
- Mandy: Worked on Jira fixes and test additions. Reviewed and fixed my Workflows for 18 and prepared for Workflow Discovery poster/demo that will be recorded later in August.
