Data Connector for SnowflakeWhat inspired this Wish List Request?
Request from multiple strategic account customers in including Wolfspeed, Thermofisher, Idexx
Please describe the new or improved feature or solution you would like to see.
- A data connector in the same vein as our Pi connector accessible from a drop down menu.
What would the value be to you and/or other users if this new feature is provided?
These customers have all mentioned standardization efforts around Snowflake based data repositories. They will become the single source of truth for these orgs in the next 12-18 months. Most analytical processes at these companies will soon start with a snowflake data pull.
Is this an external customer request?
Yes - Wolfspeed (multiple POC's have requested it including their Senior Director of Enterprise Analytics), Thermofisher (multiple POC's in several business units and orgs), Idexx (request has come up at multiple champion meetings).
Is there a competitive software package that has this feature or solution that we should be aware of?
N/A
Will this impact a renewal, expansion, or adoption at a customer, and does this put an account at risk if we do not address this?
Data AccessRe: Data Connector for SnowflakeVeeva Vault is also being increasingly adopted by HLS organizations for the same purpose. This aligns with the standardization efforts seen with Snowflake-based data repositories. Many pharmaceutical, clinical trials, and HLS organizations have made Veeva Vault their primary source of data, much like Snowflake. Please consider supporting this too
Re: Data Connector for SnowflakeJMP Development is working on an improved data connector for Snowflake for JMP 18, but there are existing ODBC drivers that can deliver tabular data back to JMP from Snowflake if that is needed in the interim.
Re: Data Connector for Snowflake@briancorcoran - thanks for the heads-up! I think they have issues with ODBC drivers from time to time that make them a less than ideal solution. Most of the customers that have asked for a true data connector are currently using the ODBC solution - it's just not scratching the itch. I'll keep an eye out in the EA announcements for it so I can tip my EA participants to test it out for you.
Re: Data Connector for Snowflake - Status changed to: AcknowledgedRe: Data Connector for Snowflake - Status changed to: Yes, Stay Tuned!Re: Data Connector for SnowflakeHi @briancorcoran
I have a customer in France (Roquette - Pharma/Food Industry) who works with this data warehouse solution. I know that an ODBC driver exists (https://www.cdata.com/drivers/snowflake/), but what can I tell them about connecting directly to Snowflake from JMP? Is this something we'll be implementing in the near future?
Re: Data Connector for SnowflakeHi @Steph_Georges
While we have been working with SAS to create a Snowflake environment similar to what customers deploy, we have had significant issues getting the test server operational. At this point, we cannot guarantee there will be a Snowflake data connector for 19.0. We will continue to pursue a Snowflake connector for a future version of JMP, but I cannot promise a particular version.
Also, the ODBC driver provided by Snowflake has been fixed and seems to work fine now, so that is an option for customers who don't want to pay for the CData driver.

Re: Data Connector for SnowflakeOne thing I want to emphasize about our ongoing Snowflake work is: It will not remove the complexity of specifying the connection for authorization. I think customers may be hoping that all goes away, because it is hard with ODBC. It will still be hard with a direct data connector, because authorization and connection specification is inherently hard for any data source. We cannot simplify what the vendor (and technology) makes complex in this case.

Re: Data Connector for SnowflakeSo - I just noticed that Snowflake provides an official API for python (https://docs.snowflake.com/en/developer-guide/snowflake-python-api/snowflake-python-overview)... any chance we could leverage that somehow?
