FAQs for Discovery Americas
[INTERNAL ONLY]
Discovery Summits support two of the company mission statements: Broaden the use and impact of JMP products far and wide within the science and engineering communities; champion statistical excellence and analytic-powered innovation in the science and engineering communities.
Specifically, every Discovery event should be designed to help us meet these corporate goals:
- Build, protect, and propel the JMP brand.
- Empower users to realize, exploit, and benefit from JMP's full potential.
- Ensure users are aware of and excited about new releases and products.
- Help users connect with and learn from JMP staff, other users, and thought leaders.
- Support JMP users who advocate for its use in their organizations.
- Solicit product feedback to ensure that JMP continues to meet the needs of our market.
- Ensure that JMP is used to teach statistics at top engineering schools; equip faculty and students so they learn and love JMP.
WHAT’S CHANGED AND WHAT’S THE SAME WITH DISCOVERY ONLINE AND IN-PERSON THIS YEAR?
Discovery Online: Early User Edition will cater to new users both in duration and content. The event will be delivered via the Zoom Events platform on Wednesday, Sept. 13 and Thursday, Sept. 14. Registration for Discovery Online is complimentary. More information and event specifics can be found at jmp.com/discovery.
In-person Discovery: Because attendance is naturally limited when people gather in person – and because it costs a lot to put on a Discovery Summit -- we should be intentional about who we solicit first and most assertively. Consider users from accounts that are poised for growth; users from big, at-risk accounts; users who need a slight push toward JMP Pro or JMP Live; users, authors, and educators who are doing cutting-edge work and those who are using JMP to make the world better.
ROLE OF SALES
Customers frequently report that attending a Discovery Summit offers a multitude of benefits that are transferable to their companies upon their return. Attendees have the opportunity to network and collaborate with like-minded peers within their industry, establish themselves as thought leaders in their areas of expertise, and receive invaluable feedback from a diverse audience who can assist in refining their ideas.
Our sales teams are vital to encouraging customer participation in Discovery Summit events so that they can experience these benefits. In fact, several of our AEs have testified to feeling a stronger personal and professional connection with their customers after a conference, thereby facilitating the growth of the customer’s usage of JMP within their company (i.e., account and product expansion) and establishing product loyalty.
See what our AEs and users have to say about the value of Discovery Summit (internal use only):
"Discovery Summits are in my opinion THE BEST way to learn about what JMP can do, get inspired by what other companies are doing, and learn the newest features when new versions are released. Add to that the possibility of talking to the developers about software issues or wishes, my trip has always been worthwhile."
– Marianne Toft, Senior Statistician, Novozymes
“The “connection” after this event is powerful; I am able to ask for the extra mile and the relationship is helpful to grow the usage of JMP in the account but also to overcome difficult situations like license model changes with significant higher prices.”
– Jessica Horsch, AE, EU Strategic T1
REGISTRATION INQUIRIES
Who will get free passes to Discovery for their customers?
We know in the past that offering complimentary registration passes has been important to our collective success. That’s why we are allocating complimentary registrations for each sales team.
Here are the allocations:
- 5 passes per account for Premier accounts
- 3 passes per account for Strategic accounts
- 1 pass per sales team to use with non-Premier accounts

Reach out to Lori Harris to redeem these complimentary passes.
When you provide a complimentary pass to a user, please recognize that this may set expectations that they receive a pass each year. Please let your users know that this is a special offer for this year only.
Don’t forget to tell your contacts that other discounts exist and are posted to the website. Group discounts and users group discounts are quite generous.
Note that these passes are for conference registration only; they do not include travel or hotels.
Are we covering travel for paper or poster presenters or attendees?
No. Presenters and attendees are responsible for getting themselves to Indian Wells.

Approved Travel Dates: Most JMP employees are approved for four working days (Mon-Thurs), with hotel expenses paid for three hotel nights (Mon, Tues, and Wed nights). Default travel dates are Oct. 16-19. If you are hosting customers and supporting the event, you are expected to be onsite beginning with the staff meeting on Monday afternoon thru lunch on Thursday.
Be aware, staff traveling from the East Coast may need to arrive on Sunday. Following the conclusion of the event, most East Coast flight options will be red eyes or Friday morning departures.
EVENT INQUIRIES
Can I host a meeting during Discovery?
If you’d like to host a meeting with a subset of Discovery attendees, please ensure it does not conflict with content and programming. Contact Lori Harris to reserve a meeting room and secure any necessary AV.
What is the virtual plan for Discovery?
There is no real-time, virtual component of Discovery Summit Americas 2023. Nothing will be live streamed from the event.
Attendees who cannot attend in person are invited to participate in the online Discovery Summit Sept. 13 and 14; even though content will be geared to new users, we believe all users will find value.
Also, of course, we will make conference materials available in the JMP User Community. Papers, posters, and associated materials will be available on Oct. 2.
