Welcome to the JMP Development Update for July 14, 2023!
Congratulations go out to the DOE team on two patents that were issued this week! The first one is entitled Experiment Design Variants Evaluation Table GUI (U.S. Patent No. 11,699,000). The second is entitled Graphical User Interface for Power and Uncertainty Interval Constructions on 2023-07-11 (U.S. Patent No. 11,699,006). You can find a copy of both patents here: Issued Patents.
With JMP 17.2 source code changes now wrapped up, we are looking forward to the creation of final installer candidates for all products on 7/24/23. This will be the last JMP release to go through the SAS release engineering process. We anticipate signing off on 17.2 by 8/23 and releasing updaters around that time. Full installers will be released by SAS after 9/19/23. For a full list of JMP 17.2 dates, please see this page in Confluence.
We will reach our JMP 18 Feature Freeze milestone at the end of the day next Friday (7/21/23). It’s important to keep the late features list to a minimum so that we have enough time to test, document, translate and fix bugs in existing JMP 18 features. When considering features or enhancement requests after the Feature Freeze deadline, please confirm with your manager and product management that the feature is absolutely necessary to ship in this release. If you all agree that the feature is required, please add it to the Late Features page and consult with testers, writers, and the localization team to determine whether the change you’re considering impacts downstream work. And as always, please continue to keep your individual feature pages up to date in Confluence as we move towards EA5, planned for 8/11/23.
Thanks very much to Audrey Shull for hosting the JMP Dev meeting on Thursday! David White presented on the revised Sample Index and compact columns. If you missed the meeting, you can see a recording here. The new Sample Index looks great and I can see that the meeting chat was particularly active this week. Thanks for all your feedback – Mia has captured ideas for future releases on this page in Confluence.
Thanks as always to Tonya Mauldin for sharing this week’s beta/crash report with crashes selected!

System/Host Testing-Cary
- Nick H: Continuing work on creating some automated tests for templates. I have been focusing more this week on creating a Hamcrest Matcher for Templates and creating unit tests to ensure that all of the platform template examples are working as expected. The matcher compares 2 platform script expressions but replaces the column references with dummy variables so the scripts can be compared independent of data table. Testing the examples provides decent coverage of both platform messages and customizations. I am also continuing work on testing platforms for all platform messages across JMP using SI examples. There are still a lot of examples to clean up so this will be an ongoing project. A couple of bugs have already been discovered and filed from this early testing. Aside from templates, I created a simple UI for rebaselining JMP Search tests that should simplify that process, and also filed a bug to allow for minimized annotations to be edited.
- Mandy: Worked on JIRA’s for workflow builder icons and Dark Mode – they are now all correct for the Notes, Screenshot images, Breakpoints, etc. Met with developer about workflow builder UI testing for prompting in the Step settings/show messages. Worked on Column Compress and wrote preferences test for a few of those settings. Entered a few Jira tickets for column compression after Dave White’s demo. Spent time on TS tracks that came in for EA4. Tracked down a diff for *GZcompress02 test which has to do with a data table change and the script not matching on Mac only (Qiana/Karen C. have been notified). Starting to work on Workflow builder ideas for poster for Discovery – will be tossing ideas to a story board, hopefully next week.
- Anna: Continuing to search for Font family persistence issues using Help > Sample Index > Data Tables list > Checking table scripts. Some scripts do not show expected results when run via Sample Index preview table vs. real table. NOREP. Adding font family persistence scenarios to file for Mike S. Added tests for fill selection mode setting via Preferences and on FrameBox.
- Hunter: Responded to EA tracks and opened one new JIRA for an issue navigating in a data table, applied the Sonoma 14.0 Dev. Beta 3 Update on Intel and M1 testing Macs in the lab to check the status of the inverted content in JMP-16991, reported some Quick Start items, and testing Aaron’s JMP Runner build with a feature to bookmark URLs within a project.
- Lisa: Continued testing on overlay encoding feature in GB, verifying tickets regarding color spaces, and started testing the summarized labeled points feature.
- Audrey: Talking with Paul N, Nala and Kimi about Python testing, Jira admin stuff.

- Paul N: Worked on Python Column object for data table class. Had to figure out how to create Python enumerations using the C-API and then add them to the Python Column Object’s type declaration. Needed the enumerations for column data type and modeling type. Figured out how to add [ ] support to the column class to access and set the row value by index. My column class isn’t yet connected to the DataTable’s column. At present, working out the mechanics of creating the C/C++ representation of the Python Object that users interact with from Python. Also, researched / helped David White with figuring out an issue with changing the Data Table version numbering, so that the warning table can be properly displayed.Looking at our first Snyk reports on the JMP Desktop source code and dependencies.
