In the second quarter of 2023, we welcomed 24 new universities with campus-wide academic suites and confirmed 10 new courses along with 41 researcher licenses and migrations. Many thanks to those across the company who’ve supported these academic results and ongoing initiatives. A few highlights from the quarter,

University of California at Berkeley, ranked #3 best engineering schools by U.S. News & World Report, uses JMP in an engineering Product Development course. The instructor, who works full-time at Applied Materials and is a JMP user, believes it’s important for his students to learn JMP due to the likelihood they will encounter it in the industry. His course has over 100 undergraduate and graduate engineering students. Kevin Potcner has been invited in recent semesters to give a workshop on Design of Experiments and the instructor recommends students complete the STIPS course to gain proficiency in using JMP and to see the power of statistical methods in product development. On a related note, Chuck London was also able to migrate all of the University of California campuses (10 in all) to the new JMP Academic Suite in Q2.
At the University of North Carolina’s Odum Institute, Ross Metusalem teamed up with Laura Castro-Schilo, Senior Research Statistician Developer, for an on-campus faculty workshop. Founded in 1924, the Odum Institute provides consulting services and training courses to social science researchers across campus. A group of faculty and post-doctoral researchers primarily from Nursing and Public Health joined for a 90-minute session covering JMP basics and a deep dive into Structural Equation Modeling. The reception was positive, with numerous attendees expressing that JMP appeared superior to their current SEM software, and with the Director of the Biobehavioral Health Lab voicing interest in a follow-up workshop for his research group. Many thanks to Laura Castro-Schilo for her collaboration with the Academic team.
Margie Navas reports that two of the major universities in Ecuador purchased the JMP Academic Suite becoming the first two universities in Ecuador to do so:
- Universidad de San Francisco de Quito (Industrial Engineering department), a private university. The software will be used in the Industrial Engineering department. It is ranked among the 51 best universities in Latin America.
- Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL) is one of the top public universities in Guayaquil, Ecuador. JMP Pro will be used by the Facultad de Ciencias de la Vida which prepares students in Biology, Agricultural and Biological Engineering, and Nutrition sciences.

RWTH Aachen University is one of the oldest and most renowned technical universities in Germany, dating back to its founding in 1870. The university has a strong focus on engineering and is particularly well-known for its expertise in fields such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science. After two years of persistent effort by Volker Kraft and Paolo Chiappa, who held multiple workshops and coordinated with multiple departments, the university has purchased a JMP Academic Suite license and will provide access to JMP Pro and JMP Clinical to its 45,000 students. At least four departments are already set to start using JMP in courses and research in Chemical Engineering, Power Systems, Urban Water Management, and Technical and Macromolecular Chemistry.
Aalen University of Applied Sciences recently hosted Volker Kraft for a workshop on advanced methods of analytical chemistry including topics on Functional DOE, Model Screening, SVEM, and others that were well received and will likely expand JMP’s footprint at the university. The dean of Chemistry along with a user at Boehringer Ingelheim expressed interest in future academic-industry collaboration.
Elsewhere in the region, we are seeing growing interest in JMP Student Subscription among African Universities. Around 900 students and their faculty will start using JMP Student at several universities within French-speaking countries on the continent. The three-part French DOE workshop was a great motivator and resource for these new users within engineering and life-science-related course disciplines.
Kudos to Stuart Little who provided onsite JMP workshops on DOE and data analysis at BASF’s Tabletting School 2023 along with Prof. Schlindwein of De Montfort University, Leicester UK.

Senior Systems Engineer Murali Anandamurthy leads a workshop on the JMP Prediction ProfilerSenior Systems Engineer Murali Anandamurthy leads a workshop on the JMP Prediction ProfilerNarsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) which is currently ranked 11th in India, has recently expanded the adoption of JMP to four additional campuses, our first system-wide license in India. Following the successful implementation of JMP at their main campus in Mumbai, NMIMS recognized the significant value that JMP brings in enhancing the understanding of statistical concepts. With the assistance of a JMP champion, the JMP Academic team collaborated to introduce JMP to the campuses in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Indore, and Navi Mumbai. Through a series of faculty workshops, the teaching staff at these campuses have been equipped and prepared to incorporate JMP into their curriculum, with plans to commence using JMP in their instruction starting next month.
National Taiwan University (NTU) is recognized as the best university in Taiwan. NTU in conjunction with their medical school established the Department of Environmental and Occupational Medicine to advance research on health care prevention and rehabilitation. Clare Zhang recently closed a new Academic Suite license for use in the department and Professor Guo and his students are using JMP Pro for research on predicting and diagnosing illness in different occupational settings. “JMP is very easy to use. We use JMP Pro to clean the data, analyze, and especially ML models in JMP Pro for diagnostic study. We really appreciate the technical support and resources from the JMP website and JMP Community”, Ping Shi, a student of Professor Guo, said.
