Plotting multiple density functionsHi all,
I've had the question(s) below in from a customer, and wondered if anyone had some insight to how to create these plots. I'll be having a call with the customer imminently to discuss exactly what they're after, but was hoping to go in to it a bit more prepared if possible.
Thanks in advance
Stuart
At the present time I just want to know if it is possible in JMP to produce a figure where curves for the following three probability densitity functions can be shown in the same diagram:
1. The density curve for the (central) t-distribution with specified df (degrees of freedom)
2. The density curve for the non-central t-distribution with the same specified df as for the curve in 1. and a specified value of the non-centrality parameter.
3. The density curve for the non-central t-distribution with the same specified df as for the curve in 1. and a specified value of the non-centrality parameter different from the non-centrality parameter as for the curve in 2.
Re: Plotting multiple density functionsTake a look at the density functions in the scripting index. The examples show how to plot them through JSL. So, the answer to the question from the customer is "yes, JMP can do that."

Re: Plotting multiple density functionsBrilliant, Thanks for that Jeff
Re: Plotting multiple density functionsHi @Stuart_Little ,
Have you taken a look at the Sample Index? Inside there is a section called Teaching Scripts. Within that there is a section for Interactive Teaching Modules where a script called Distribution Calculator can be found. You can choose the t distribution and make a variety of choices.
But maybe one can modify the script to allow a choice in nonCentrality parameter and have it show up in the UI.
Re: Plotting multiple density functionsYou can also define each PDF as a column formula and then plot them with Graph Builder if you do not want to use script.
Re: Plotting multiple density functionsI encourage everyone not to underestimate the power and flexibility of the approach @Mark_Bailey advocates.
I've attached a datatable using this approach. Run the table scripts, one after another (running them en masse causes a weird templates artifact, possibly). By selecting dots in one graph, pdfs are turned on in the other, in any combination desired.
I can't think of another way to implement something like this with no scripting, and so little effort. Note that this makes use of a "selected" column and an LDF.
Cheers,
Brady

Re: Plotting multiple density functionsThanks for the suggestions all, it's been a useful discussion to see different ways to approach this, and a big thanks to @brady_brady for providing the data table to illustrate this beautifully
