Welcome to the JMP Development Update for July 7, 2023!
We are now in Code Freeze mode for JMP 17.2. This means that source code changes are done, and we are doing final work for documentation, localization, testing, installers and other final production tasks. Daily builds and nightly unit tests will continue for another several weeks while these finishing touches are completed. Source code is locked down, though if we do happen to find a show-stopper level of problem that absolutely must be fixed, it is still technically possible to make a source code change for a short window of time. The next major milestone will be our final installer candidate on July 24th.
JMP 18 EA4 was completed last week was announced to customers on July 5th. Thanks to Product Management and everyone who contributed feature info to share on the EA page. JMP 18 EA5 planned to freeze on 8/11/23 so please continue to make those feature page updates!
Our JMP 18 Feature Freeze milestone is coming soon on July 20th. This is the date where we want to have major feature work completed and we will not undertake new big items after that time. We know there are always a few features that need to continue feature work after this date, so Shannon has created a JMP 18 Late Features page to track significant feature work that will be continuing past the deadline. It’s important to track work here to help us assess the impact of any late-breaking items. Please help identify items and add them to this list.
Thank you to Julian Parris, Evan McCorkle, and Dan Schikore (with lots of help in the Q&A from Ernest Pasour) for a great demo on Platform Templates this week. There was good discussion after the demo portion was done. John commented at the end that it will be a premier feature for JMP 18 and adds tremendous value. It was noted that it has been just 66 days since the idea was first floated as a prototype, and in that time has been a flurry of work done by many hands to get Platform Templates to where they are now. If you missed it, be sure to check out the recording here. Customers will be getting their first look in EA4 and additional improvements are ongoing.
Bryan Fricke has a special request: We're hosting a testing event at the 2023 Discovery Summit and need your input. This is an opportunity for you to have your work rigorously tested by conference attendees. Please submit any projects, features, or system components that you'd like to have tested. This includes new functionalities, updates, and especially features you are passionate about improving for usability and accessibility. Please note that while we appreciate all submissions, due to time and resource constraints, we will be selecting the most promising candidates for this round of testing. Thanks for your participation!
Thanks as always to Tonya Mauldin for sharing the beta and crash track summaries for the week.
Combined Beta Report for EA1, EA2, EA3 – There are many reports so be sure to visit JMP Live to see them all. The report pasted below is a treemap of Subtopic. SAS/JMP employees have been hidden and excluded.

Below we see weekly beta report for just this week with crashes selected. View in JMP LIve: Beta/crash report for the week of 7/7/23

Jira Tip of the Week – Many of you using Jira already have discovered pinning fields to the top of your right panel. It’s a handy feature. Two key things to know about pinning: (1) pinning is unique to each project, so if you work with multiple projects, you’ll need to pin your favorite fields once for each one; (2) reordering pins has recently gotten much easier, with drag-and-drop support newly added by Atlassian. Combining these two features has made it much easier for me to get a consistent look and feel across all projects I work with.

Technical Support
- Duane: The first of the week (Monday and Wednesday) were a little slow for us in Support, but the last part of the week picked up! The Engagement team is up and running, handling all non-product support inquiries, and we are building processes to handle the different types of cases (sales, training, store, website, My JMP, RPS cases….)
As normal, here are the TS JMP Live reports. There are filters on many of the reports that will allow you to see Store or Training issues (Product = JMP Store or JMP Training) already, but I am planning on incorporating an additional filter variable for the queues (Tech Support and Engagement), but haven’t had the time to add it yet. With this filter, one can get a better sense of each group. Also, here’s the link to the Jira filter showing the tickets reported by TS for the last 14 days.
