Meet the Interns: Brad Norris (@Brad_Norris)
Manager: Ruth Hummel (@ruthhummel)
Meet Analytical Education Intern Brad Norris. He lives in West Lafayette, Indiana, and attends Purdue University.
This summer, Brad is working for the JMP Education team, which is responsible for developing, delivering, and managing access to educational material.
"Our materials help customers get the most out of JMP software products by learning how, when, and why to use the statistical methods and options available in JMP," Brad's manager, Analytical Education Senior Manager Ruth Hummel said. "Right now, the web of learning content is messy and difficult to navigate, so Brad is helping the Education group better surface these materials, in part by building a Resource Recommender engine. Brad’s projects include developing a proof-of-concept for both a deterministic (planned response based on keyword input) chatbot and a generative chatbot, as well as exploring terminology used by customers when they search for help, and mapping available content into Learning Paths for our key industries and roles."
Let's learn a little more about Brad.
What made you want to intern at JMP?
The main reason I wanted to intern at JMP was how the interview process was handled. My interviewers made me feel comfortable immediately, and it felt like a conversation between new friends! This, along with the job description aligning with my own interests, really made me want to intern at JMP.

Human cannonball at the circus—not sure if my computer science degree will help with this though!
What's something most people don't know about you?
After living in the States for so long, I can do quite a good Midwest American accent.
Of the places you've visited, what's your favorite?
I'm a bit of a history nerd, so Rome has got to be at the top of my list. The architecture and museums you see at every corner were fascinating to me, and on top of that, the weather was amazing the whole time I was there. Would definitely recommend it!
What are you most excited about this internship?
Besides being able to work on projects that I'm passionate about, I'm most excited about networking and connecting with many talented people!
What do you hope to accomplish during this internship?
I hope to come out of this internship with new knowledge and hopefully a completed main project.
For his 18th birthday, Brad raced on a track in a Lamborghini! If you could splurge on one item and cost was no object, what would you buy?
Tickets to a Formula 1 race in Silverstone. I've always wanted to go to an F1 race, but the tickets are so expensive!
What would be the title of your autobiography?
Life Across the Pond
What advice would you give prospective intern applicants?
Be open to new challenges and don't be afraid to ask questions. Whenever you have the chance, network with as many people as you can - those connections are invaluable.
