Bei ihrer Ankunft bei SAS beschreiben die Praktikanten ihre Gefühle als „aufgeregt“, „nervös“ und „überfordert“. Als wir uns an JMP und seine Kultur gewöhnten, stürzten wir uns kopfüber in unsere Arbeit. Nachdem nun die Hälfte des Praktikums erreicht ist, beschreiben sich die Praktikanten als „wohl“, „selbstbewusst“ und „befähigt“. „JMP legt großen Wert auf das Lernen; Sie erwarten nicht, dass Sie alles wissen. Sie möchten, dass Sie anpassungsfähig und lernbereit sind.“ Michael Lee, Praktikant im Inside Sales, sagt.
Obwohl der Eintritt neuer Menschen in die Arbeitswelt nichts Neues ist, bietet die Erfahrung, dass solch einflussreiche Schuljahre aufgrund der Pandemie ins Internet verschoben wurden, dieser Gruppe junger Erwachsener eine einzigartige Perspektive, die sie in den Beruf einbringen kann.
Die Schüler kämpften mit der realen Möglichkeit, dass ihre zukünftigen Ziele völlig verschwinden würden. Der praktische Bildungscharakter der Schule geriet ins Wanken, und das galt auch für uns. Anhand der Geschichten meiner Mitpraktikanten beleuchtet dieser Artikel die Rolle von JMP, die uns dabei hilft, als junge Menschen in der aufstrebenden Arbeitswelt erfolgreich zu sein. Wenn ich meinem früheren Ich gesagt hätte, dass ich mitten im Studium das Hauptfach wechseln würde, wäre ich schockiert oder erleichtert gewesen, weiß ich nicht. Die besten Interviews, die Sie jemals finden werden:
Ob jemand schon vor der Bewerbung SAS kannte, sich hier unter zweihundert anderen Stellen beworben hat oder eine Networking-Plattform nutzte, wir alle haben bei JMP einen Platz gefunden. Das Interesse vieler Praktikanten an JMP wurde in unglaublichen Interviews gefestigt. Brad Norris, Praktikant im Bereich Analytical Education, sagte mir: „Bei dem Vorstellungsgespräch ging es vor allem darum, herauszufinden, wer man als Einzelperson und nicht als Arbeitnehmer ist.“ Während seines Interviews hatte er das Gefühl, bereits eine Verbindung zu seinem Team zu haben.

Maddi Walsleben verließ ihr Interview mit diesem Gefühl ihres Teams: „Bei diesem Praktikum geht es um Sie; Wir möchten, dass Sie lernen, und wenn Sie die Erfahrungen, die Sie machen, nutzen und daraus etwas lernen, dann denken wir, dass es [die Erfahrung] erfolgreich ist.“ Sie sagte, es sei das beste Interview gewesen, das sie je geführt habe.

Als Praktikanten haben wir bei unserer Ankunft bei JMP nichts als Aufregung, Respekt und Dankbarkeit von unseren Kollegen gespürt. Das in diesem Unternehmen geschaffene Umfeld ist geprägt von Gemeinschaft, Teamarbeit und Unterstützung. Mit den Hauptfächern Luft- und Raumfahrttechnik, Englisch, Biomedizin und Wirtschaft ist jedes von einem Praktikanten übernommene Projekt einzigartig und wirkungsvoll. Alle Praktikanten, mit denen ich gesprochen habe, erklärten, wie wertgeschätzt sie sich durch die konkreten Projekte fühlten, die ihnen übertragen wurden. „Selbst für ein so kleines Unternehmen wie JMP besteht es aus so vielen Teilen. Zu lernen, wie man zu den Rollen passt, ist wirklich erfreulich.“ sagte JR Cobb, ein Praktikant als Autor für Wissenschaft und Technologie.
Die Interessen und Leidenschaften der Praktikanten zeigen sich in der Arbeit, die wir bei JMP leisten. Will Corley, ein Praktikant im Bereich Biowissenschaften, begann bei JMP und lernte die Versuchsplanung kennen. Er kombiniert seine Leidenschaft für das Grillen mit der von DOE und versucht, das perfekte Steak zuzubereiten. Als Field-Marketing-Praktikantin war Maddi schon immer daran interessiert, mit den Marketingtrends Schritt zu halten, was perfekt mit ihrer Arbeit bei JMP übereinstimmt. Das Thema „Schwimmen“ kam bei meinen Vorstellungsgesprächen mit Praktikanten mehrmals zur Sprache. Kyra findet, dass es ihr hilft, ihre Zeit und Zeitpläne innerhalb und außerhalb der Arbeit zu verwalten. Emily Cohen, eine Praktikantin als technische Redakteurin, bemerkte, dass ihre Freude am Häkeln sie auf die manchmal langsame und mühsame Arbeit in einem Statistikunternehmen vorbereitet habe. Ganz gleich, ob es sich um eine fortschreitende Überlastung durch Gewichtheben, kreatives Schreiben oder Videospielen handelt – die Hobbys der Praktikanten manifestieren sich in den einzigartigen Fähigkeiten, die sie bei der Arbeit mitbringen.
Als Praktikant auf der weniger technischen Seite der Dinge ließ mich die Bekanntschaft mit den vielen SAS- und JMP-Praktikanten in Forschung und Entwicklung an meinem Wert als Teammitglied zweifeln. Andere Praktikanten beschrieben, dass sie sich in einem Technologieunternehmen, umgeben von Informatik-Studierenden, „fehl am Platz“ fühlten. JMP legt Wert darauf, die Arbeit aller Praktikanten zu würdigen, unabhängig davon, ob sie in einer technischen Position tätig sind oder nicht.
Als ich zu JMP kam und andere Praktikanten kennenlernte, die in eine ähnliche Nische wie ich passen, wurde ich noch wertvoller und freute mich noch mehr, einen Beitrag für das Unternehmen zu leisten. Jeder Praktikant, den ich interviewte, sprach begeistert davon, wie glücklich er war, wichtige Arbeiten zu erledigen, die praktisch handgefertigt für seine Fähigkeiten waren. Bei JMP gibt es sicherlich für jeden einen Platz. Als technisch orientierter Mensch sagt Brad: „Sie werden Sie nicht unbedingt in ein Team aufnehmen, in dem jeder genau derselbe ist wie Sie.“ Und das dient zum Teil dazu, Ihnen dabei zu helfen, herauszufinden, wo Sie sein möchten, und Ihnen auch dabei zu helfen, sich beruflich weiterzuentwickeln.“
JMP-Kultur:
Viele der Praktikanten haben den Schwerpunkt, den JMP auf die Vereinbarkeit von Beruf und Privatleben legt, aufgegriffen. In ihren Definitionen von Erfolg wurde mehrfach die „Work-Life-Balance“ erwähnt. Es wurde auch bei der Beschreibung von JMP als Unternehmen zur Sprache gebracht. Meetings sind nicht nur produktiv, sondern auch persönlich. Ich habe es als besonders erfreulich empfunden, dass ich erfahren konnte, wer meine Kollegen als Menschen sind und nicht nur, welche Position sie am Arbeitsplatz einnehmen. Ich habe noch nie erlebt, dass sich ein Unternehmen so sehr um seine Mitarbeiter kümmert. „Ich freue mich weiterhin, jeden Tag zur Arbeit zu kommen“, sagt Will. Es begeistert ihn nicht nur, mit seinen Kollegen mithalten zu können, sondern auch einen Beitrag zu JMP zu leisten.
Die JMP-Kultur geht weit über die Trennung und gleichzeitige Verschmelzung Ihres Berufs- und Privatlebens hinaus. Durch die Betonung der Werte des Einzelnen kann JMP für seine Mitarbeiter Rollen finden, die ihnen Spaß machen und für die sie sich begeistern können. „Meine Position ermöglicht es mir, die beiden Dinge zu kombinieren, die mir wirklich am Herzen liegen“, sagt JR, ein Chemiestudent, der sich mit technischem Schreiben beschäftigt. „Bei JMP herrscht eine Kultur, in der jeder etwas anderes und Einzigartiges hat, das er einbringen kann.“
Selbst für die Remote-Praktikanten ist die Wirkung der JMP-Kultur etwas, das sie schätzen und feiern. „Es ist, als ob die Teams so eng miteinander zusammenarbeiten … Es fühlt sich eher wie eine Gemeinschaft als wie ein abteilungsbezogener Job an.“ Hailee Austin, Praktikantin im Veranstaltungsplaner, hat es mir erzählt. Die Praktikanten waren überrascht von der Sorgfalt und Aufmerksamkeit, die ihren Remote-Mitarbeitern entgegengebracht wurde, sodass sie sich bei jedem Schritt einbezogen fühlten. Praktikanten fällt es leicht, mit JMP innerhalb oder außerhalb des Büros in Kontakt zu treten.
Die bemerkenswerte Zahl von Praktikanten, die Vollzeitstellen bekamen, war für einige eine Überraschung; Der Erfolg, den JMP bei seinen Praktikanten findet, setzt sich auch im Berufsleben fort. „Sie haben Praktikanten, die wirklich wichtige Dinge erledigen, und dann möchten sie, dass sie wichtige Dinge tun, und deshalb möchten sie, dass sie bei SAS bleiben.“ Sagt Maddi. „Hier gibt es viel Miteinander.“ Kyra hat es mir erzählt. „JMP ist ein so herzlicher Ort und ich freue mich darauf, jeden Tag arbeiten und im Büro sein zu wollen.“

Während ich Praktikantenerfahrungen sammelte, erzählten mir viele Leute Geschichten darüber, wie die JMP-Mitarbeiter sich alle Mühe gegeben haben, ihnen das Gefühl zu geben, willkommen zu sein. Um ein paar zu nennen:
- Viele der Remote-Manager reisten während des Internpalooza nach Cary, um ihre Praktikanten zu treffen und ihnen JMP vorzustellen.
- Als ich allein im Café saß und auf jemanden wartete, fragte Diana Levey, ob ich alleine esse, und lud mich ein, bei ihr Platz zu nehmen.
- JMP-Mitarbeiter gehen in die Kabinen und stellen sich den Praktikanten vor, um mehr darüber zu erfahren, wer wir sind und was unsere Projekte sind. Jeder möchte die Praktikanten kennenlernen.
- Ryan Gilmore hat mehrere Treffen mit anderen Praktikanten und mir vereinbart, um die verschiedenen Teams bei JMP kennenzulernen und zu erfahren, was sie tun.
- Ein Praktikant hatte in den ersten zwei Wochen keinen Sicherheitsausweis. Jeff Perkinson tat sein Möglichstes, um sicherzustellen, dass der Praktikant jeden Tag das Gebäude betrat.
- Andretti Brown besorgte mir Makkaroni und Käse, nachdem ich mich darüber beklagt hatte, dass ich es eines Tages nicht zum Mittagessen schaffen konnte.
- Wir werden von den Leuten unserer potenziellen Teams interviewt und nicht von einem typischen Personalmanager.
Praktikanten finden ihren Erfolg bei JMP auf unzähligen verschiedenen Wegen. Manche finden Erfolg darin, ständig gefordert und herausgefordert zu werden, andere finden es darin, durch Daten dazu beizutragen, Menschen zu helfen, und wieder andere finden Erfolg, indem sie einfach ihr Bestes geben. Ganz gleich, wie sie definieren, was sie als erfolgreiche Menschen, die echte Arbeit leisten, ausmacht: JMP hilft uns allen, besser zu werden.
