Rob Baxter, Consultant - Primary Metals, Nalco Water - Ecolab
Nalco Water’s second-generation Aluminum Quench Measurement System required an upgrade in how data was presented to the customer. The quality measurement process included collecting baseline data with deionized (DI) water, multiple runs with the customer’s baseline water, additional runs with a chemical additive, and a final set of DI water runs to make sure the equipment sensitivity hadn’t shifted.
Since 1996, Nalco had used various versions of commonly available software, but its improved device demanded better data visualization. JMP was chosen for ease of application and visual impact. It allowed the customer to easily see the anticipated variability in their process, the location in the quench curve (from film boiling through convection), and the magnitude of the changes. It eliminated the confusion that often arose in the past when this information was presented in multiline charts.
