Welcome to the JMP Development Update for May 26, 2023!
Mia Stephens reports that JMP EA3 installers for Windows are available in My JMP for those customers who are eager to find it. We will announce EA3 to all customers when the Mac installers are ready. There is still ongoing work to figure out the signing/notarization issues that have been encountered in this build.
JMP 17.2 is just a few short weeks away from our Code Approval period on June 13. As of this writing, there are 215 issues already submitted for 17.2. JMP 16.2 has 279 issues which were addressed, so we are tracking similarly or slightly below our previous .2 release with a few weeks left to go.
Feature development and bug fixes for JMP 18 continue, and I see a lot of interesting features and fixes going in. I understand we have a pretty good slate of JMP 18 feature demos coming in June during our Thursday morning JMPDev meetings, so stay tuned!
Congratulations are in order for Lisa Grossman, who celebrated her 5 year anniversary with JMP last week!
In case you missed it, here’s some recent Inside JMP News:
Here’s your Atlassian Tip of the Week – Like JMP, the Atlassian development teams are fans of “drinking their own champagne”. They use their own tool, Jira, to track their issues. They make their issues public – users can peruse them and even vote on the ones that are important to them. In the two years since JMP has adopted Jira, we have identified quite a few issues or oddities we’d like to have fixed. If you have time, check out our Jira/Confluence Oddities and Wishes page to review the issues that JMP staff have found, and click the links to go vote for the issues.

JMP Development Updates
JMP Interns
- Trevor: I learned how to use JMP this week by completing multiple modules in the STIPS program. My first big project was assigned to me as I am working on doing a deep dive into how many potential customers leave JMP in their cart or put it in their cart and then take it out. I will be building reports and looking at trends to try and figure out how we can end up making those sales!
- Haley: This week I’ve been getting trained on JMP testing tools like Jira and Perforce. I’ve also been reading literature on the mixed models that are fit in the Response Screening platform, as my project this summer will be to begin testing that platform.
- Brad N: This week I started work on a text-analysis project with my manager Ruth. The first steps were obtaining the data files we needed from a different sub-team and then starting a word-cloud analysis from within JMP. I'm also presenting a chat-bot project I worked on in college to some of my colleagues.
- Emily: I am making a mock-up design for 3 different forms of deliverables for the 12 “Working Smarter” tips of the day. I am also working on a way to incorporate tooltips (when your mouse hovers over a certain tab) into the JMP program for some of the tips that have shortcuts.
- Bryce: Throughout the first week of work, I have been in various meetings with members of the SE team and have had the opportunity to meet them and learn their backgrounds and how they relate to the work done here at JMP. I have also been working through the STIPS course and have read a few customer success stories about how they have used JMP.
- Parker
This week I enjoyed wrapping up some onboarding tasks and setting up JMP. I was able to try JMP without any tutorials, document my experience as I went, then published some notes that went to the UI/UX team. I then went through some STIPS modules to better understand the platform.
- Abrah: Look for my first blog post Tuesday!
- Hamid: Meeting with the Stat documentation team regarding the two main projects I am and will work on for the first few weeks. Intern orientation sessions for both JMP R&D and SAS. Meeting with my manager and team members and discussing the projects I am involved in and the ways in which I should approach and contribute to them. Began working on my first project (SLS_Examples). Learning new stuff, such as SEM, and reviewing old stuff, such as mediation analysis. Overall, this was a pretty productive week and full of learning!
- Sohail: This week I worked on collecting TMX files from the memoQ API and am currently in the process of parsing them and cleaning out the dataset.
Technical Support
- Duane: Never a dull moment in Support. This morning, we’ve been receiving numerous emails regarding “Delivery delayed…” for JMP Trial emails. These are in addition to the normal, expected “Undeliverable…” emails for the trial. For today’s issue, I believe it is related to ServiceNow ticket: INC0870786. Additionally, the Store 2.0 went live earlier this week. Wendy’s Engagement team has handled a few customer cases. Working with Falco and his team, we will continue to update and improve the process.
Here are the TS JMP Live reports and the link to the Jira filter showing the tickets reported by TS for the last 14 days.

Product Management
- Mia: (1) Between April 4, 2023 and May 26, 2023 there were 20966 JMP 17 trial downloads with 8386 activations (40% trial activation rate). Of the 8386 activations, approx 5200 users opted in to submit telemetry (5234, conservatively excluding testers). This puts us at a telemetry submission rate of 62% (!) (Previously, our trial submission rate was only <0.5%.) Kudos to John Schroedl, David White, Myron Chandler, and the rest of the team for changing the process to allow us to collecting this much-improved data.
(2) Windows installers for EA3 are available now on the EA page for those who can find it. The Torch add-in is also available. Will wait to make the announcement to our EA user base until Mac installers are available. The Clinical EA will be available hopefully by the end of next week also.

- John Sall: Fit Least Squares and Bivariate needed a fix for the prediction intervals (JMP-16723).
Fit Mixed, Fit Nominal, and Fit Ordinal needed a fix to cancel out of loops for Y's (JMP-16727 )
Fit Mixed, Fit Nominal, and Fit Ordinal now use Fit Group if multiple Y's (JMP-16794).
Fix two By-group issues in Response Screening (JMP-16740 and JMP-16739).
Add CI's and PI's to Profiler output tables (JMP-16770 ).

System/Host Testing – Cary
- Audrey: Atlassian admin work, met with Atlassian tech support regarding an issue with one of our Confluence plugins, participated in some interviews, verified a few Jira issues, intern training sessions.
- Mandy: Mostly catching up on emails since I returned from Italy vacation. It was great!! Had a few tests change some due to the Excel Engine change, so had to pull those and fix them; Also had some workflow changes in the image tests, so fixed those; Working on verifying about 10 JIRA’s so I can add tests where needed for that; need to also maybe finish up the 2 JIRA’s I have open for Workflows to be added to the sample directory within the next few weeks if I get the time.
- Lisa: Worked on testing broadcast changes to graph sizing + verifying various bug fixes including column list box sizing relative to properties panel in graph builder and row label behavior in control chart builder.
- Hunter: Completed JMP 17 EA 3 testing on Windows, worked with Rajneesh on replicating and verifying his testware update for two nonlinear regression test failures exclusive to Ventura 13.3 and 13.4, and verification of several JMP 17.2 JIRA items.
- Nick H: Pushed changes to the testing dashboard to fix the issue of test history graphs not loading for individual tester pages. Reached out to Dan about some recently failing unit tests related to changes he has made for GroupPlatform, possibly causing some undesirable behavior when saving platform scripts with By variables. Working on some changes to the Unit Test GUI, enabling a prompt to ensure users have an opportunity to exclude/mark known issues before large test runs. This change will include an improvement to the current ‘Active Filter:’ status text to better account for ‘dirty’ filters. Added unit and image tests to the framework for a number of recent bug/small feature verifications.
- Mike M: Worked on a couple EA tech support tracks, continue verifying recent Formula, Help system and Columns Viewer Jiras, investigating/updating Sikuli tests for JMP 18 changes. Enhanced image tests to use all Jitter Points() settings after Jianfeng’s update for Scatterplot.
