the speech topic: Analyzing Reliability Assignment Using JMP
Summary of speech:
The topic of reliability allocation studies how to determine the reliability of individual components in the system so as to ensure that the reliability of the system meets the design requirements. At the same time, this decision-making process needs to consider other constraints, such as the cost of improving component reliability and the feasibility of component reliability. Looking at this problem from a mathematical point of view, this is an optimization problem with constraints. Its task is to minimize the cost under the condition that the reliability of the system reaches the standard. The authors see that in existing software and literature, approaches to such problems often assume that the cost equation is a smooth continuous equation for component reliability. The reason for this assumption is that the optimization algorithm they employ requires continuity and differentiability of the equations. However, such a continuity equation is either meaningless or difficult to obtain in practice. If such methods are adopted blindly, users are actually solving the wrong problems. In this article, the authors discuss a very acceptable cost equation. This cost equation can be very general. The author uses this cost equation to demonstrate how to use JMP to analyze the problem of reliability assignment of two simple systems. While the example is simple, the steps can be applied to complex systems, or to different but more realistic cost equations.
