SAS inventors came together Monday, April 24, at The Umstead Hotel for the 2023 Patent Dinner to celebrate something completely unique: ideas. Ideas that became patents. You can read more about the event and see the full list of patent recipients in the InsideSAS article.

Why submit for a patent?
Patents are an important part of the innovation process because they help develop new products and protect an inventor's intellectual property.
"As developers, we put a lot of time and effort into designing and building platforms that make JMP users’ work that much easier, giving them more time to explore and make incredible discoveries with their data," Senior Research Statistician Developer Caleb King (@calking) said.
Advanced Analytics R&D Manager Ryan Lekivetz (@Ryan_Lekivetz) added, "It stops competitors from copying what we have implemented. This also signals to our customers that we provide unique and novel technology."
"It can seem daunting the first time you go through the process," King said. "It certainly was for me. Thankfully, the patent attorneys at SAS are always willing to help answer your questions. Don’t be afraid to reach out!”
What is patentable?
Lekivetz says the SAS patent team makes it easy to go through the process. If you’re thinking about it, look at the "What is Patentable?" section on the Patents at SAS Sharepoint. "Those of us who’ve been through the process would be happy to walk you through the steps," he added.
