Portuguese Version of JMPPortuguese is not a supported language for JMP software. This limitation has had a significant impact in growing the JMP usage in Brazil and Europe where our competitors (Minitab, SPSS, Spotfire, Tableau,...) all offer Portuguese versions of their products to support users in those market.
A recent LinkedIn Search of "Minitab" filtered by Brazil as a Geography reveals +16K profiles, the same search of "JMP" reveals <1K profiles. The data demonstrates there's an appetite for statistical software among the engineering & scientific community but it's not being served by JMP. We strongly believe lack of Portuguese support is a significant factor in adoption of our tool.
A Non-Portuguese version of JMP has limited government and academic usage where mandates are in place to adopt only products that support their official language. It's well known that academic usage drives future commercial growth of JMP licenses. With no academic programs instructing with JMP there is no pipeline of graduates entering the workforce with JMP skills.
JMP is currently available in French (80M Speakers), German (75M Speakers) & Italian (64M speakers), but despite there being 236 Million native speakers of Portuguese and the 6th most popular language in the world, it has not been historically considered for language support in JMP.
Meeting 15% YOY growth targets (Rule of 40) will require expanding JMP usage in new territories not traditionally supported by JMP. All native Portuguese speakers across the globe are long overdue for their own version of JMP.
JMP Brazil SE @WesleySantos has offered to assist with this effort and provide translation support to ensure these changes are implemented sooner than later.
User InterfaceRe: Portuguese Version of JMP - Status changed to: InvestigatingRe: Portuguese Version of JMPHi @WesleySantos, @JerryFish and @nick_shelton, thanks for bringing this up again! The Jira for this https://jmpdiscovery.atlassian.net/browse/JMPPRODMGMT-777. We had a good deal of discussion about this during the JMP 18 cycle, but development was already well underway and this was deferred.
As there would be considerable cost and resource investments, including recurring costs, we'd need to do a lot of research (i.e. revenue projection, sales forecast,....) before considering adding a new language.
Changing this to investigating in JMP 19. Meanwhile, if there are additional customers requesting, please add to this thread, including potential sales and expansion opportunities.
@JerryFish , can you please create a new internal wish list request to add Portuguese to the languages supported by Text Explorer? That's handled separately. Thanks!
Re: Portuguese Version of JMP@Trish , I had a customer ask about JMP in Portuguese today (specifically for Text Explorer). Any updates on if/when this will make it into the product set?
Re: Portuguese Version of JMPComplementing @nick_shelton message:
Last year, I had the opportunity to participate in an event in the area of Six Sigma/Quality Control and many comments made by those present were the lack of Software with support in the local language for beginner users in the area of statistics. I understand that having a supported language in Portuguese is an important asset for the coming years.
As mentioned by @nick_shelton , academic use is an important factor in boosting sales and in this context I understand that having the STIPS Course supported in Portuguese is an important factor not only for students but also for users without training in the area of statistics/engineering.
During meetings with new customers, a frequent comment is about the possibility of changing the software configuration to Portuguese due to the fact that many users already have experience in other software with support in the local language. In addition, many beginner users don’t have technical training in the Engineering/Statistics area and the fact that they have menus and techniques described in Portuguese helps in the first steps in using the software.
@Trish Thank you for your support let me know if you need any more information.
Re: Portuguese Version of JMP - Status changed to: AcknowledgedRe: Portuguese Version of JMP@nick_shelton I can work up some cost estimates to translate the JMP Software UI and Discovering JMP and discuss with Leadership. @WesleySantos thank you for offering to provide translation support for this effort.
Re: Portuguese Version of JMPI've had a request for a Portuguese version of JMP from BRF Brazil (Wholesale meat production - worldwide locations. Home - BRF Global (Web view)). The company currently uses Minitab, which offers a Portuguese version of the software. I spoke with the two people that provide internal Six Sigma training for the company and they liked what they saw in JMP, but they explained that having to use JMP in any language other than Portuguese would pose a huge challenge for them. Most of their potential users are not engineers; they are field workers without college degrees, and almost all of them speak only Portuguese.
