Registration is open and seats are available right now -- although we do expect to sell out.
Yesterday @Jon_Weisz said it perfectly: "Tell JMP users to join us in-person if they can. It'll be wonderful to be together. But if they don't have budget or are not comfortable traveling yet, they shouldn't worry. they can participate in our online event."
Many of us really want to meet in person again. It’s natural. Teams and Zoom sessions have kept business moving, but digital gatherings really can’t replace in-person activities. Because we hear similar sentiment from our users, we’re planning an in-person Special Segment to this September’s Discovery Summit Americas. The in-person and online programs are complementary – designed so users can get value from attending one or both events. Each agenda is optimized to make most of the format.
Help us get the word out
We can send email blasts and post social media promotions, but those can’t compare to heart-felt outreach. That’s where you come in. Send an email or text message to users who are excited to learn all about JMP 17. Make a phone call or tag users in social media if they’d benefit from benchmarking analytic successes. Maybe you’ve heard a user lament not being able to meet with other users or with our R&D staff in person? You know what to do.

Help your users justify travel

Users (or the people who approve their travel) may be asking how they can justify the cost and time commitment of attending the in-person Discovery Summit Special Segment when Discovery content will also be online. That’s a legitimate question. And here’s a legitimate answer.
We’re making the online version of Discovery Summit as good as an online event can be. In fact, the program is optimized for online consumption. There’s great content to take in – that includes pretty much everything you need to know about JMP 17. There’s interactivity where there can be interactivity. And, no doubt, there are connections to be made.
That said, the in-person Special Segment has been designed around pieces that attendees have historically loved and that we’ve not been able to duplicate online. With a focus on sharing and conversations, this event provides unprecedented access to the people who make JMP products and set the road map for future versions. If having a seat at that table is important to you and your organization, you’ll want to take part in R&D Roundtables, which will only happen at the in-person Special Segment.

Just as important, the in-person event will bring JMP users together to share their analytic journeys, talk about real-world challenges and solutions, and inspire one another to new heights. If you’ve been to an in-person Discovery Summit, you know what happens when assumptions are challenged, and best practices benchmarked.
You’ve seen the quizzical looks when understanding is just out of reach, and you know what the “ah-ha” moments of illumination look like too. If learning how to do more with fewer resources is important to you and your organization, you’ll want to be a part of these in-person, peer-to-peer conversations.
What about discounts for the in-person part?
There are no early bird discounts this year because the benefit to registering early is a guaranteed seat -- and seats will be limited.
And there are no group discounts because we’re hoping to have representatives from lots of organizations...not just a few.
As you can see, this year we're forgoing the complicated discount offers and expecting that these strategic users have the means to register. In the case of non-profits and other VIPs without means, we can have a case-by-case conversation.
What are we saying about Covid-19?
As much as we’re looking forward to being together at SAS World Headquarters in September, we know that some things are more important. Your health and well-being, for instance. And ours too!
So, we’re planning this event with health and safety in mind. We’ve designed the agenda and the floorplan to keep people -- and air -- moving. We’ve enhanced our cleaning protocols. And we’ve made sure that fresh air is never too far away. In fact, the evening socials will be entirely outside, weather permitting.
In addition, SAS and JMP have implemented Covid-related rules adapted from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), and local health authorities. They are as follows:
- If you are fully vaccinated* you are welcome to register and attend this event. However, please be prepared to show your vaccination card(s) if asked.
- At this time, masks are optional and will be provided for any attendees who request them.
- Attendees are asked to be respectful of fellow data explorers by maintaining personal space whenever possible, washing hands frequently and thoroughly, and leaving at the first sign of illness.
- To minimize the number of people, guests are not permitted at any portion of the in-person segments of Discovery Summit this year.
- Each day, before coming onto SAS property, all attendees must complete a self-screening. If the answer to any of the following questions is “Yes” you may not join the remaining in-person components of the conference.
- Do you have a fever, chills, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, new cough, or new loss of taste or smell?
- Have you had close contact (within six feet for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period) in the last 14 days with someone diagnosed with Covid-19, or has a health department or health care provider contacted you and advised you to isolate or quarantine at this time?
- Have you been diagnosed with Covid-19 in the last 10 days?
Please note that registrants who cannot attend Discovery Summit Americas in person because of Covid-19-related concerns may request a full refund at any time before the conclusion of the conference.
All attendees are expected to abide by these rules. If you are unable or unwilling to do so, please do not attend. We will continue to monitor guidance from CDC, WHO and local health officials, and may choose to adapt our protocol at any time. We appreciate your help in making Discovery Summit a safe place to learn and grow.
What about employees attending?

We love that JMPers get as excited about Discoveries as our users do. This year, though, we ask all employees to be especially patient as we watch our registration numbers for the in-person Special Segment. If you’d like to attend, block your calendar now for the week of September 12 so you’ll be free to go if you’re issued an invitation. And we should all block our calendars for the week September 19 so that we don’t have any conflicts for Discovery Summit online.
Employee invitations will be issued based on need. Speakers and people running the event get the first invitations, for instance. Our JMP17 experts will get early invitations, of course. User enablement staff will attend because, well, this is all about enabling users. We will assess need as registrations come in and we get closer to the event. For now, we appreciate your patience.
Hi Jordan -- We really can't know when it'll close because that depends upon how fast folks register. Your customer may luck out and have a seat waiting in September, or it might fill up early August. That said, if you have a very special, strategic users, we can consider holding a spot if we know to expect them. If that's the case, reach out to me, Holly Connors and Lori Harris...we'll figure something out.
