During the European Discovery, I had the pleasure to attend the BASF session on automating access and visual creation for a manufacturing environment : https://community.jmp.com/t5/Discovery-Summit-Europe-2023/Don-t-Lose-Time-Anymore-Automated-Access-Visualization-and/ta-p/572662#t=1693.6,1706.1
This case study, which collects data via REST API and provides control charts, is ideal in a JMP LIVE context. The JMP Live 17 version offers a set of features to allow this. So I decided to create an appliative case that allows to make available in JMP Live control charts, containing alarms, and that these are updated daily.
The real benefit of JMP Live for our customers in manufacturing is to have control charts that are automatically updated based on regularly updated data.
To have regularly updated data, I decided to focus on weather data. This site (https://www.visualcrossing.com/weather/weather-data-services#) allows to make an extract of the next 7 days forecast on the city of your choice. The advantage is that it is possible to retrieve the data through an HTTP Request.
This allowed me to create this set of reports accessible from JMP Public: https://public.jmp.com/packages/gXHVBFBG4qgs1wGklPgFz/reports
Reports details
- This simple report gives me a general idea of the temperature in Paris for the next 7 days, with the expected average value and the expected maximum and minimum felt values: https://public.jmp.com/packages/mzFTB6W4lr874b2vjK9Rs

- This heatmap (https://public.jmp.com/packages/JqpJH_kJ60Gjg2FzLg1p6) with a Column Switcher gives me the detailed hour by hour report of the next 7 days. The coming day being at the bottom, and the seventh day being at the top.

- The Process Screening (https://public.jmp.com/packages/N3DvDn9CV15jQW3yGyNV_) gives me a global summary table of all my variables, and the capability of my weather indicator to be in my spec limits

- The MOST IMPORTANT report (https://public.jmp.com/packages/SmcXdjnlbVbd2bcZMctLP) which is a set of control charts, with alarms of exceeded control limits activated, which allows me to receive a daily email in case of drift during degraded weather forecast. So I can see the days of risk of rain and that my umbrella will be necessary or the days of high temperature that require a hat and sunscreen, or the thickness of my clothes depending on the temperature. This is the purpose of the control charts: Monitor values and take action based on events

Refreshing of the reports
All the reports are updated if the data table is updated. This can be done in the two différent situations:
- The JMP Live scheduler does an automatic daily update from my data creation script
- Manual update from me
If you want to receive an email from JMP Public informing you that weather drifts are forecasted for Paris, you can activate the warnings for you in the control map (warnings in english in the menu)

Customization
If you want to customize (change the city, change the boundaries) these reports, you can use the script attached to this post.
- First, you need to create your own API key on the website https://www.visualcrossing.com/weather/weather-data-services#. To do this, you need to create an account and generate your key
- Once you have your API key, change the line 16 of the attached script
myAPI_key="theKeyGeneratedByTheWebsite";
- Change the location if you want so, line 17. you can choose whatever town you want. For example cary or tokyo, or sidney or marseille!
Town="cary";

- Adapt your own spec limits (line 21->line 29). Here are my spec limits in the JMP Live report
- 5<30 (in celcius)
- 0<1.5
- 0<1000
- 0<30
- Publish your reports in JMP Public/JMP Live
- Paste your customized script (excluding the report generation part) in the setting of the data table in JMP Public/JMP Live
- Set a scheduler for each day (sorry the setting is in French)

- You are done!!!!
