What inspired this Wish List Request?
This is a request from users at Panasonic. Masakazu Okada-san got this request at yesterday's meeting.
Please describe the new or improved feature or solution you would like to see.
The users at Panasonic want to set Value Labels from their mapping data tables. In the mapping data tables, values and labels are saved. They have many mapping data table, so they want to do it systematically. (They have already known that they can copy and paste the mapping information onto the list box in Value Label column property.)
They don't say a specific feature, but Makasazu Okada-san and me would like to suggest the option to set New Labels from Old Values based on the mapping data tables defined in [Apply Mapping from Table].
To see what we want, please follow the steps below.
(1) Run the following script.

(2) Select the Value column in the Data, and select [Cols] > [Recode...].
(3) Click the red triangle at the top-left corner, and select [Add Value Labels].
(4) Click the red triangle at the [New Label], and select [Advanced] > [Apply Mapping from Table].
(5) Click the [Choose Table...] button, select "Mapping".
(6) Select "Value" at the left, and "Label" at the right list box.
(7) Click [OK]. Nothing happens.
We would like to suggest that there be an option to [Set Labels for New Values]. If this option is turned on, labels are set to New Labels boxes for New Values. At that time, the corresponding between values and lables is based on the information in the mapping table.
What would the value be to you and/or other users if this new feature is provided?
We have already have copy & paste feature in the Values Labels column information's list box. But if the above suggestion is realized, we can set Values Labels more systematically and easily when we prepare the analysis data in survery researchs.
Is this an external customer request?
Yes. This is a request from analysts at Pananonic, a famous electric company in Japan.
Is there a competitive software package that has this feature or solution that we should be aware of?
I don't know. I have not investigated.
Will this impact a renewal, expansion, or adoption at a customer, and does this put an account at risk if we do not address this?
We don't think that users will not cancel JMP even if we don't implement this feature. But if JMP can be used for managing and analyzing their survey data, they might add more JMP licenses.
