Welcome to the JMP Development Update for March 24, 2023!
JMP 17.1 installer testing continues this week. Thanks very much to our testing teams in Cary and Beijing for all the work you’re putting in checking out various configurations, products and linked deliverables! Audrey reports that we are expecting to sign off at some point early next week.
As a reminder, JMP 17.1 updaters are planned to be available on support.sas.com by early April but may be released a bit sooner depending on when final signoff occurs. Full installers for JMP 17.1 will be delivered to brand new customers in My.JMP in select regions that are currently using the new end to end JMP purchase process. Full installers for JMP 17.1 will be available for legacy customers when My.JMP is ready for those accounts.
In a few short weeks, we will also freeze for JMP 18 EA2 – currently planned for 4/7/23. Please continue to update your feature pages here in the JMP 18 Features Category. This is extremely helpful as product management prepares to share the latest round of JMP 18 updates with our participating customers. Mia reports that this process has been greatly streamlined in JMP 18 by the combination of our new feature page template and the excerpt feature in Confluence. She uses excerpts to pull information from the Motivation and Summary section directly into a single source Confluence page which is in turn used to cascade development details to both early adopters and internal teams working on release materials.
Thanks to the marketing teams who coordinated in the early am to deliver JMP Discovery Europe for customers, and to development and other technical staff for presenting and meeting with JMP Discovery Europe online attendees during Meet the Experts and other sessions! Please continue to contribute your notes here in Confluence. If you enter Discovery suggestions, Mia Stephens and Sarah Sylvestre request that you add Feature Requests in the JMPPRODMGMT project for triage. You should also add the DISCOVERY_EUROPE_2023 label and track the Origin as Customer, Internal Customer, or another category as appropriate.
Thanks to Sara Doudt of the JMP product management team for presenting this week with (and to) sales and marketing teams who are adopting our JMP standard cloud collaboration tools, Atlassian’s Confluence and Jira. You can read more about Sara’s presentation here in the Product Management Library. By the way, everyone who has a Confluence license has their own personal space. You can click on your user icon at the top right corner of any Confluence page and select Personal Space to find yours. If you need a new work-related space to store content and collaborate with your team, please reach out to Audrey Shull or me to help set one up. If you also have access to Jira, you can enter your request in the JIRAHELP project.
Jira Tip of the Week: Did you know you can connect MS Teams to Jira? This one-time setup will turn all your pasted Jira links into nicely-formatted cards, which allow you edit or comment on an issue directly in Teams. The Comment button opens a small dialog (within Teams) for you to add a comment. The Edit Issue button opens a small dialog (within Teams) where you can change status, assignee, priority, or add labels and attachments. The Open in Jira button will take you to the issue within your web browser.

To install this app, if you are not already seeing these cards, find the … in Teams underneath one of your chats. Search for Jira Cloud and select it. You may be asked to Configure (choose … in the dialog to find the Configure button) in order to connect to our Jira instance and may have to login. After that, you should be all set!

JMP Development Updates
Host
- Brian: JMP Statistical Discovery LLC finally has a code signing certificate for Windows. After two months, DigiCert approved JMP as verifiable organization and allowed us to obtain the certificate. Another small step in our journey toward independence. Apple had already issued a certificate for our Mac products.
- Paul N:
- JMP Discovery Online – hung out mostly in the Scripting Breakout room. Took latest SABA training course, Vital to SAS Messaging…
- Embedded Python work. Solved several technical issues. All the work is macOS only at present but Windows work will come next. Code has been checked in but is currently disabled.
- Python 3.11.1 as an embedded macOS Framework, and part of the build on my machine.
- Ability to create and use a user specific site_packages folder for Python packages. This allows a user to add additional Python packages to those that JMP’s Python can utilize. This keeps the base Python installation clean and dependable.
- Create nested modules of internal functions to be importable from Python. Structure in place, minimal implementation. logStream, current row count, runJSL, …
- Running the current JMP Python JSL integration using the fully embedded Python in test builds runs right out of the box with no configuration needed.
- Bryan B: Working with Da Zhang, Nala, and Kyoko for an Authorization solution for SAS Viya 4 (CAS). Previously JMP used Basic Authorization, but SAS dropped that and only uses Bearer tokens. Worked with Dahlia for a MySQL workaround in 17.0 and pushed a fix to 17.2 and 18 (JMP-16092). Worked with Dahlia and Nan Wu with a Query Builder fix for dependent lists where an intermediate query results in no table (null). Continuing work on Data Connectors.
- John Schroedl: Making changes to project and build scripts with Bob and Jim to handle code signing differently now that we have an official certificate for JMP LLC. Working on TEConverter to add missing conversions needed for new SAS import code. Help menu changes to remove PDB entries.
- Michel H: Continued work on importing .sas7bdat files (otherwise known as SAS datasets). Explored getting symbolize-crash-report to look for archived historical builds and their symbol files on an alternate server.
HTML

- Paul Spychala: Working on more Font support in HTML (JMPHTML-2045). Also working on making Mosaic Segments aware of scale in HTML (JMPHTML-659, JMPHTML-680, JMPHTML-1862). Also working on matching HTML Log Scales with JMP Desktop (JMPHTML-2004, JMPHTML-1331).
- Mike S: Wrapped up a refactoring issue and began working on a few display issues; continuing working through an O’Reilly Modern Javascript course.
JMP Live
- Aurora: 18.0 - Bug fixing related to data admin access, data import, data update. Investigated JMP 17.1 to JMP Live 18.0 publishing problem (Michael Goff implemented the fix). Pitched and got acceptance on a design proposal for @ mentioning users in comments. Miscellaneous - Discovery Europe online (plenary talk segment on JMP Live, Meet the Experts). Added Jira automation rules for JMP Live with the help of Audrey Shull (linking issues based on comments, advancing to "Developing" when a branch is created). Helped with interviewing for an open position.

- John Sall: Finally retired the old "Neural Net" platform (that was replaced by "Neural" in 2009). It had been JSL-only. (JMP-16086) Added prediction intervals to the Profiler for Fit Group and GenReg JMP-5649).
