Starting posts getting edited after getting solutionWhat should we do in cases like this Is there a faster way to loop? ? User posted a question, got answer and then edited to clear the starting post (could have shared sensitive data, who knows).
Re: Starting posts getting edited after getting solutionI suspect your guess on why the entries were deleted is probably the reason.
My question is, is there a backup copy of the original posts?
Re: Starting posts getting edited after getting solutionI've seen it happen a couple of times, not often enough to make it a problem. It is really irritating after putting a lot of effort into an answer. I think in this case it may have been a data table.
dt_ref = Open("$DOWNLOADS/Reference data table.jmp", invisible);
Re: Starting posts getting edited after getting solutionHi @jthi,
I agree with others, it may not be a big problem, but it can be difficult to go back to the topic later and try to understand what was the problem and the responses/comments. Maybe a reminder to JMP Users to NOT post confidential/sensitive data should be done, but it seems rather natural when you're in any website...
One possible option could be, as I have seen in other Data Science forums, to limit the post editing : some forums enables the editing only in the hour following the post, others to a certain amount of edits, ...
I really like the option to be able to edit your posts as you wish but only in a limited timeframe, it enables you to rephrase/reformulate or add comments to your initial post, but not to completely transform/delete your post after all. This may promote a more "responsible" and thinking approach to posting.
Or maybe prevent the edit option when a solution is found (even if the deletion/editing could be done before a solution is found and there would be a loss of information/context in some cases) ?
Re: Starting posts getting edited after getting solutionIt isn't too big of a problem but I think those posts should maybe be removed as there is no question which was answered.
I think it is good that the posts can be edited (like in this case) to remove some data which shouldn't even have been there in first place, but it would be good if users left other parts there (even better if they anonymized the data and left it there).
Re: Starting posts getting edited after getting solutionFYI - I've sent the user a private message asking about the post and whether we could find a less drastic edit.
Re: Starting posts getting edited after getting solutionThe SAS Community allows the author to edit the message for 30 minutes after posting. Super Users and staff still retain the editing permission. An indicator is presented at the top of the message,

In reviewing the 2023 data for our Discussions area, the median time between the posting of a message and first edit is around 4 minutes. Excluding a few outliers, most first edits happen within 20 minutes of posting (format shown in hours:minutes).

I'm open to implementing something similar if you think it would be helpful.
Re: Starting posts getting edited after getting solutionIt looks like lala wanted to edit their post after their time limit in this post. Not sure how often that is happening, but in this one case the conversation would be a little cleaner if it were edited..

Re: Starting posts getting edited after getting solutionWe have not implemented the time limit so lala could still edit the post. I think it was a matter of not knowing how. I updated the post with instructions.
