Welcome to the JMP Development Update for March 10, 2023!
It’s been great to see all the news from Sitges on Inside JMP this week! It sounds like the conference venue and the program for JMP Discovery Europe were terrific and customers really enjoyed the chance to connect with JMPers in person once again. I have seen a lot of detailed notes already added to this Confluence page by participants. The conference certainly seems to have generated a lot of food for thought for future versions of our products!
JMP 17.1 final installer candidates were created this week and are being evaluated by JMP QA teams in Cary and Beijing. Once we have signed off on updater installers, we expect to deliver them on support.sas.com. JMP 17.1 full installers will be made generally available on My.JMP when it’s ready.
We plan to freeze for JMP 18 EA2 on 4/7/23, and there is a lot of activity in the JMP 18 track right now! In addition, important bugs are being fixed in the 17.2 track – about 30 so far. I’m certain we will see additional integrations as 17.1 gets out to customers and the EA program continues to ramp up.
As a reminder, we do not update documentation in XX.2 releases and usually very few strings are expected to change. We have a single string handoff for 17.2 UI strings and built-ins on the JMP 17.2 schedule for late May. In the meantime, the L10N team has been hard at work coordinating English documentation source handoffs, processing returns from translators and incorporating reviewer feedback in preparation for shipping translated PDFs and producing translated Help for 17.2. In addition, like many of our Windows machines that have been hosted on SAS VM servers and have moved to AWS, the L10 team’s MemoQ server will be migrated this spring.
We did not have a dev meeting scheduled this week. However, I did get volunteers for two new topics for future weeks. Thanks to developers Luciano Silva and Dan Schikore for offering to demo new features for JMP 18 in upcoming weeks! Those meetings are now on the calendar. If you have something you’d like to show the group, please let me know when you would like to present and we can get something on the calendar for you.
Thanks to Tonya Mauldin for sharing this week’s beta/crash report with crashes selected.

Finally, thanks to Audrey Shull for sharing this Confluence Tip of the Week!
Email notification questions have popped up this week, so I want to remind everyone that you have some control in your personal settings.
Go to your profile in the upper right and choose Settings. Under Your Settings, choose Email. To minimize notifications, I suggest you review items here and uncheck a lot of the options. These are my own settings, but you may prefer even fewer emails.

JMP Development Updates
Life Sciences Updates
- CDISC invited JMP to present a joint workshop at the CDISC Europe Interchange Workshop on April 25, 2023 in Copenhagen from 1-5 pm. The CDISC team will present on standardizing data format and requirements for the first hour, then Wenjun Bao and Geoff Mann will present background information on JMP Clinical and its usage in regulatory agencies followed by a live JMP Clinical demo for the remaining 2.5 hours. The workshop description can be found on this Confluence page Many people helped the Clinical team prepare for this workshop! The team would like to thank Diana Levey for her support, Janice Lebeau for taking care of logistics, Larry LaRusso for adding a logo to the workshop document, and Sam Gardner, Geoff Mann, Russ Wolfinger, and Malcolm Moore for content suggestions and editing help. Many thanks to Ian Cox and Hadley Myers for their support and agreement to send Christian Bille, located in Copenhagen, to help with the workshop!
Technical Support
- Duane:
- I wanted to share that a friend and co-worker from my team’s days in SAS Technical Support, Doug Wielenga, passed away last Friday. He was the Sr. Manager for the Analytical Solutions TS group. His team worked closely with the JMP TS team, sharing phone duty responsibilities among other things. I would bet a few JMP folks will remember Doug.
- This ServiceNow ticket may be of interest to some in JMP. FYI that Safari users will experience problems logging in to their SAS profile after 22March.
- It’s been a busy week for us, as I expect it is for everyone! Our support phone lines were out of commission Monday morning due to a certificate issue. Callers would be placed on hold with no way to get through. Looking at the voicecall records, we had 7 callers abandon their call after being placed on hold.
- Here are the TS JMP Live reports and the usual plot below. And, as usual, here is a Jira filter showing the tickets reported by TS for the last 14 days.

Development Operations
- Bob: Worked with Bobby and Dave in Tech Support investigating customer reports of installers not launching. Created Windows final candidate installer validation files for QA testing. Documentation
- Chris B: Corrected paths in the doc (JMP-12774 and JMPDOC-1850). Examined how the built help files are copied to /exp and requested some corrections from Nick (JMPDOC-1853). Found 29gig of content in /drafts. We're figuring out what is actually needed. Outlined some possible new workflow/workspaces as we move to AWS. Reviewed StringBot strings.

Investigating issue of incorrect location of Cloud Clipboard and Emoji panels which is related to a need for better IME support. Experimental change for Ernest for top-level Workflow window.
HTML
- Praveena: Analyzed TE: Can very large table be made scrollable? . Worked on running benchmark testing, capturing results, documenting improvement in performance for initial load time in components as a result of the work done in sprint 18-3. Worked on Improve load time performance ( Creating sprint review documentation).
- John Powell: Running performance tests and comparing results with measurements before our performance improvements(Sprint18-3 review document). Started planning our next sprint.

JMP Live
- Michael G: Worked on UI for AD Sync: Custom settings form for connection settings, AD group search, reused settings forms for other AD sync settings. Refactored client code to require file extensions on imports. Fixed a few various bugs.
Statistics
- Jianfeng: Without relying on a TK extension, all the exact tests in the Oneway platform are working now. There is still some clean up work to do and performance issues that I need to work on, but otherwise I am very close to wrapping up the port of the exact test C code to a native implementation in JMP.
- Laura C-S: Worked on a new model shortcut for quick specification of cross-lagged panel models. This is a common type of SEM and it’s very tedious to specify manually. The shortcut is nearly ready and makes it a breeze. Learned a little bit about the doWhy library in Python and its overlap with SEM.
Stat Documentation
- Karen: Finished the review and updates of the last of the DOE sample data tables. During 17 I had updated most of the tables (over the years there were changes to the random number generator for seeds, new table scripts, and changed default optimality criteria). There were a couple that were left as is, but the remaining tables have been reviewed and updated.
- Michael C: Helping Qiana with removal of SAS Integration material from documentation, streamlining documentation of platform options that are available only via scripting – the Scripting Index will be the primary source of information about these options going forward.
Stat Testing
- Jacob: Testing a pending change to Make Validation Column and writing new unit tests for the Cutpoint option. Updating the Usability Study Tool to include an option to add hints for each exercise. Verifying Jira tickets and cleaning unit tests.
- Tonya: Testing, short run control charts, ZI binomial, ZI beta binomial, bug verification, and working on beta feedback.
Note from Shannon
Thanks to interactive HTML developer Mike Stickles for sharing this follow up to my comic this morning! I did not realize the paranormal distribution was such a popular t-shirt topic, but Caleb King also said he had one. :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:
Two of my sons have that image (but a little sharper) on T-shirts from a math competition they participated in. It’s probably their favorite of them all. Some of the other ones are variations on these. I had to explain the real joke behind the last one to them, since they’d never heard of M.C. Hammer.
Oh, that makes me feel old! But I’m pretty sure my kids do not either. Hope you all have a great weekend!
