I am pleased to announce that Julian Parris will be a director in JMP Development, effective April 1. He will lead the department responsible for data table, scripting, display, graphics, and many other foundational parts of our product.
The current director, Xan Gregg, decided he wanted to step back from management and concentrate on designing and coding, rather than managing, and he opened the position. Xan, of course, is the developer of the showcase platform, Graph Builder, and has developed many other features in JMP, as well as led an extraordinary group of other developers. Xan will assume the job title of "Distinguished Engineering Fellow" in recognition of his achievements and with a degree of independence to allow him to pursue various creative projects. Thank you, Xan, for your leadership over many years. You have built an amazing team, and have been instrumental in the success of JMP.

Julian is a rookie when it comes to C++ and JMP internals, though he has worked closely with Ernest Pasour and other developers on new features. Xan and the other veteran developers will continue to play the role of mentor to Julian, and to the newer developers. Though Julian doesn't start until April, he will soon begin to meet with developers and testers to start learning our development processes and people.
Julian taught data analysis in the Department of Psychology at University of California, San Diego, where he was a teaching professor.
Julian started his JMP career under Curt Hinrichs on the Academic team bringing JMP to university students.
Then Julian became Learning Strategy Manager. In that role he became the creator, writer, producer, and host of the pandemic-era on-line show “JMP On-Air” in 24 episodes. He was presented with the SAS CEO Award of Excellence in recognition. He was also the creator of SKP, the Statistics Knowledge Portal, which remains the #1 driver of all organic traffic to jmp.com. He also recorded the JMP demos for the STIPS on-line course, and created the initial version of “Learn JMP” in the User Community.
Then Julian became manager of JMP Strategic Initiatives and Analytics. It was during that time that Julian developed a prototype Workflow Builder in JSL, which was so enthusiastically received that it was converted to C++, by Ernest Pasour, becoming the highlight feature of JMP17. Julian also demoed the Workflow Builder in a grand finale segment in last fall’s Discovery plenary.
More recently Julian served as Director of User Acquisition, involved with Digital Marketing, and putting together a system to validate students to get JMP for free, to go live later this year.
Julian has many fans for his fast-paced fluid presentations; my favorite is his Discovery presentation “Narcististic: Lessons Learned (About JMP and Life) During a 14,000 Mile Journey...” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27KT8bvDCw0 . You may also enjoy “SpeedStats” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kVm8rvatHs .

@XanGregg for realizing your passion and @julian for accepting the new opportunity.
Congrats both @XanGregg and @julian)!!
Graph Builder is "the cornerstone" platform for me -- do visualization quickly and interactively before doing any modeling -- to help understand what the modeling is really doing.
My all-time favorite from the Professor Parris archives -- Significantly Statistical Methods in Science (SSMS).
Congrats to the both of you! This is exciting!
Congrats to both of you, Xan and Julian!
