Re: Sample Data - Big Class Refresh for 21st century neededThanks for posting this @gail_massari!
At least one of the Fitness data sets has a Gender column as well.
Re: Sample Data - Big Class Refresh for 21st century neededYes, I agree that we need to find the data sets that contain sex and gender and appropriately change the text in the levels for these characteristics of the individuals in those datasets for reasons stated.
Sex can also assigned by genetics as well (sex determining chromosomes, like X and Y, but not strictly so binary (could be XXY, XYY, etc.) and is different for different species as well) so it can depend on the species being referenced by the data set.
I think it also matters is why we are using those variables and what story/analysis is being done. Are those variables even needed in the dataset if they are not used or necessary? Something to think about.
Re: Sample Data - Big Class Refresh for 21st century neededHi all, thanks for bringing this up and for the discussion. We'll get this into Jira to formally capture, but wanted to let you know that there is a project just underway to modernize the Sample Index. The focus is largely on the interface, but I'd consider the modernization of existing data sets (and perhaps retirement of offensive ones) to be within scope of that effort. See:

Sample Data - Big Class Refresh for 21st century neededWhat inspired this wish list request?
JMP Education meeting with @ruthhummel @Di_Michelson @monica_beals
We were talking about how useful sample data is to users. Big Class is used a lot.
Sex refers to a person's biological status and is typically assigned at birth, usually on the basis of external anatomy. Sex is typically categorized as male, female or intersex.Gender is often defined as a social construct of norms, behaviors and roles that varies between societies and over time. Gender is often categorized as male, female or nonbinary.

I am not sure what the best source is
What is the improvement you would like to see?
Either use Sex M/F/Intersex -or- Gender M/F/non-binary.
Why is this idea important?
Our users are diverse and expect their product to reflect the world we live in - one that aims to be inclusive
