Best Practices for JMP Public (JMP 17 Version 2023)A. Lippincott and G. Massari, 16 Feb. 2023
The JMP SEs have taken over ownership of JMP Public.
After discussing with @chuck_boiler , @MaryLoveless and @nick_shelton we agreed that the area needs cleaning. Some old data being refreshed is no longer highly relevant (like some of the COVID data) and some post are useful to certain SEs or customers, but are not suitable as Features. The page incudes over 300 posts.
As part of the cleanup, we will be UNFEATURING all posts on March 1. If you have a post you want featured after that time, and after reading these best practices, please submit the form the link at the end of this post).
JMP Public Owners/Editors
- SEs own the area.
- SE Alex Lippincott monitors the area.
- Communications, headed by Landra Cunningham, edit the content. Gail Massari also assists.
- Dieter Pisot provides technical guidance.
Purpose and Goals
- Create and share compelling, interactive graphs and data that convey the value of JMP Live. (Sales/Marketing)
- Provide a way for JMP and JMP Pro 17 customers to try posting non-proprietary reports and data to a site that works similar to a JMP Live instance they can license. (Sales/Marketing)
- Provide a place for SEs and Sales Teams to post sample reports useful to individual customers, and by extension, to the JMP customer community. (User Enablement)
Best Practices
- Choose a Title that describes and sets the stage for what you will show – what the graphic shows. For example:
- How long will my retirement nest egg last?
- Determining how long your retirement savings will last.
- Provide a summary of what one will find, what you can do and/or conclude from the graph. For example
- Use this retirement data from 1928 to see proportion of retirement savings remaining if they are invested in the S&P 500. Use the data filter to select time horizons of 30 or 40 years, choose adjusted for inflation or not adjusted, choose your withdrawal rate.
- We can easily compare among countries that push the development for outer space and see that Russia led the development of outer space before 2000. After 2000, the US is the leading country, and China is increasing activity after 2017.
- Include a JMP file with embedded scripts to enable people to replicate the graph or use data to create another graph.
- Optionally, link to related information. For example:
- Get all the details on this data exploration in the blog post I wrote with Bill Worley.
- Learn more about and see how to use Workflow Builder.
- Watch a Mastering JMP video on this topic.
Featured Posts
- Alex Lippincott will manage Featuring using a form
- We will feature 12 posts a day to make it easy for users to see the featured items and not overwhelm them.
- To be featured, posts must be put in All Users. We may consider creating and enabling other Featured areas, like Discovery Summit. Contact Alex Lippincott in Comments if you have a need.
- The default post length is 2 weeks. We hope this refresh will bring return visitors looking for new info. Posters can request no feature, 2-week default, 4 weeks, or other.
Posting Instructions
- Anyone can post. To be Featured, fill out the JMP Public Feature Request Form.
- A reminder that asl long as the item is public, it is available and searchable and will appear on the HOME tab.
Feb. 16 JMP Public Feature Pages currently include over 300 posts

Re: Best Practices for JMP Public (JMP 17 Version 2023)Hi @malcolm_moore1 , @PIN @IkjuShin, @DaeYun_Kim , @naohiro_masu , @KyokoTakenaka , @Melisa_Muhd . I just want to make sure you see this new procedure related to JMP Public. Please spread the word, and of course comment, as needed.
Re: Best Practices for JMP Public (JMP 17 Version 2023)No, Problem. If I can use Japanese to explain the details of my post, I may post if after the new process.
Re: Best Practices for JMP Public (JMP 17 Version 2023)@Masukawa_Nao I just copied some of your Japanese text into the description (I don't know what it said) and it worked.
So, yes you can explain in Japanese. See:
