Short Form Videos to Show off JMP

Calling all JMP SEs :megaphone:

We are looking to create a series of short-form (less than 1 minute) videos for social media (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube) that showcase JMP and its many capabilities - and we need your help!

While the marketing team is great at creating and distributing content, we are not experts on how to use JMP This is where you come in.

We are looking for ideas on what content YOU would want to see out of a channel like this.

What tips and tricks would’ve been helpful to you as you got started using JMP?
What are some common questions you see from users?
What are some of your favorite capabilities in JMP that can be shown in 30 seconds or less?

Prediction Profiler with variables and responses that are broadly relatable. The tire tread example in the help documentation is good. If I can think of a better one I will edit my reply. Also, how about build 5 graphs in 10 seconds in graph builder?

SVEM is probably a little advanced for a TikTok audience.

I agree with Jason and Jordan. I would add Recode to the list you can show in less than a minute.

Yay JMP on TikTok!

There is great potential in showing JMP in 60 seconds and on social media!

When I create videos, I think of something I would do in Excel and then show how to do that in JMP.

I focus on a single pain/feature and show that. It would be something like this From Excel to JMP.

Create a histogram
Create a Y-by-X chart
Small quality-of-life things like extracting the first word, identifying and removing an outlier, creating a subset by clicking in the histogram plot, changing from comma to dot (or reverse), RECODE FTW
Different graphical options
Interactivity of JMP graphs

I am going to stop there.

For my SE colleagues: If it has been a long since you did any graphs in Excel, it is worth the pain to go back and create a few. It was a good reminder of why the graph builder is such a good value proposition!

JMP's data cleaning tools are among the most useful capabilities to new users:

Ex: Multiple File Import, PDF Importer, Google Sheets, PI Importer, virtual join, joining tables with query builder, etc.

If you define your specification limits in advance in the appropriate column property, control chart and capability analysis for SPC can be performed with a single drag and drop.

I think you can show almost any of JMP in 30 seconds as long as you keep it simple and just focus on a small part of a task, and not the whole project!

As others have said, Recode and other data prep tasks are underappreciated. I will never forget the JMP user that told me about showing a colleague Recode: "they looked at me as though I were a god."

I think you could show designing an experiment. If you go from already having responses and factors defined, there are only a few clicks to get to a complete Definitive Screening Design.

I would also recommend using the show-the-last-thing-first approach, just as I would for any length of demo.

Adding images to JMP tables and then using them as labels in graphs. This has been a mike drop moment for me during demos in the past.

A few things come to mind that get good responses from customers and could be shown in 60 seconds (or less!)

- Recode: automatic grouping, trim white space, extract segment
- Text to columns
- Graph builder (so many things!): stacked distributions, drill down graphs, custom maps, column switcher, local data filter
- Contour profiler, Design Space Profiler, Simulator for visualizing DOE optimal settings
- import multiple files
- fast formulas (especially with extracting date info)
