Welcome to the JMP Development Update for January 27, 2023!
We have now reached our Code Freeze deadline for JMP 17.1. Thanks for all your efforts evaluating and resolving issues for inclusion in this first JMP 17 maintenance release! Susan Conaghan asked me to mention that she will be sending the 17.1 Release Notes out to the dev team for review on Monday and would like comments back by Wednesday.
Over the weekend, Jim will create the 17.2 branch and DevOps will work to get all required processes running early next week. As we move into the 17.2 cycle, we will continue to investigate and resolve high priority customer issues found in 17.0/17.1; however, our attention will largely shift to JMP 18 feature work. Please continue to add new feature pages, epics and stories to describe JMP 18 important features that you wish to highlight for EA customers! We plan to freeze to create our JMP 18 EA1 alpha on 2/3/23.
Hope you all saw this post on Inside JMP about JMP’s first sale processed entirely through our own business systems! Congratulations to Digital and Business Operations, customer care, sales teams in Germany and contracts people who shepherded this sale (appropriately, to a startup company) through the process! After successful beta testing in Germany, the new process will roll out to additional regions in the coming months.

JMP Development Updates
System/Host Testing-Cary
- Audrey: AWS learning and experimentation. Thanks to Nick Ruva for doing a Q&A for those of us learning about how to administer AWS. Testing some 17.1 fixes. Created a new page to show the list of component owners while we’re waiting for the interactive UI to be available to edit this information. Starting work on cleaning up our Jira labels. Played with my Apple Health Step data and confirmed that working from home has had quite a positive impact on my average step count. (Someone can tell me if this is not an appropriate use of control charts. :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:)

- Nick H: Working on small bug and feature verifications for 18.0, adding tests where appropriate. Filed a couple of Jiras related to bugs in image rotation within display boxes. Helped discover that the Genetics menu and platform was incorrectly available in JMP 17 standard and this has since been fixed for 17.1. There was also a slight rush to add 3 new platform to JMP Starter for 17.1 which has been approved and pushed. In addition I have continued work on some enhancements to the JMP Testing Dashboard. I am working with Myron on optimizing a new SQL query needed for the enhancements.
- Hui: Thanks to Audrey and Anna on following HTML5 developer’s fixes and verified the regression defect when I was absent. Continue working on test cases for interactive HTML5 testing suite. Reported an edge case defect where a label does not show up (JMPHTML-1955).
- Mike M: Finished Early installer testing for 17.1. Will update Installer Validation document with some tips. Opened a Jira for EditFocus issue (click not working if you just typed in another EditBox). I’m still testing 17.1 Help documentation that has not been published officially. Image diffs have me and David Barbour investigating a potential Profiler bug with Bootstrap Forest().
- Mandy: Finished my Workflow paper and recorded it this week for Discovery Summit Europe. And also worked a bit more on the tabulate / Pack crash issues we have had, with Dan S. – fixes went back in at 18.0 and 17.1 – verified both today – hoping this one is done!
- Anna: Testing Paul N’s new JMP map server with Lisa. Adding new test programs for Jira issues entered in 2022.
- Hunter: Finished early installer testing for JMP 17.1, verified several JMP 17.1 defects, and installed MATLAB R2022b Native Apple Silicon Open Beta for verifying JMP-14922.
Data Discovery
- Dan S: Fixes for drag-and-drop in Tabulate, focus issues in formula editor / scripting index / data filter, session support for Compare Data Tables, and map boundary shapes not showing in a Project. Reworked some of the TabPage closing to better distinguish Tab Page documents (Projects) and boxes (report content).
- Evan: Adding action recording for Color Cells. Working on unified JSL Where function for lists, matrices, and columns for things like vec[Where(vec > 5)] and :name[Where(:height > 55 & gradeList == “B”)].
- Ernest: Cleaning up Columns Viewer and Header Stats for EA1, creating feature pages.
- Xan: Working on HDR plots and PolySeg refresh issues.
DOE
- Brad: Gave a presentation on marketing preference studies for Doug Montgomery's Coursera DOE course. Recorded my talk for the EU Discovery Conference
Host
- Aaron: Changed the default location of JSL Pick File() back to what it was in JMP 16 (requested by a customer). Pushed two changes to remove n-squared behavior in box plan code that resulted in really long platform script generation time for certain types of large reports. Looked at a corrupt customer project for Tech Support. Investigated additional EditFocus issues that came in. Fixed a false-positive error message when publishing to a fast JMP live server. Added support for generated publish scripts for data-only publish and replace.
Product Management
- Bryan F: Collaborated with Praveena to improve the visual design of HTML5 reports. Developed an unmoderated script for JMP Ruby and assisted with logistics and content for the Discovery Lab. Provided an outline to Daniel Powell to organize the licensing manager client. Requested that Greg Kraus update JMP VPATs include JMP Clinical. Contributed to design discussions pertaining to JMP Live and emphasized the importance of leveraging the established UX Process to enhance the overall user experience. Responded to Bobby Riggs regarding a request to a seeing-impaired student who has difficulty in using JMP because the toolbar cannot be resized.
HTML5
- John Powell: Investigated a problem accessing JMP’s Web Map Service from JMP Live (WEBJMP-6520). Analyzed load time performance of specific Interactive HTML files(Performance findings 18.0). Answered a couple of questions on the JMP User Community.
- Paul Spychala: Working on Performance benchmarking and analysis along with the rest of the HTML5 team. Also committed many HTLM Confidence Intervals axis updates [JMPHTML-1758].
JMP Live

My son Hunter is currently into playing Monopoly. We have a Pixar version at our house but there are a zillion variations out there!
Hope you all have a great weekend!
