Congratulations are in order!

The first sale as JMP Statistical Discovery LLC came through yesterday (January 26, 2023) after a year and 26 days of transition to a stand-alone company. And while it’s felt like 10 years of transition pain crammed into those 391 days for some on the JMP team, this huge milestone makes all the effort worth it.
“We really couldn’t have done this without a big team: Digital Operations, Finance, User Enablement, Legal, Business Operations, and others,” said CEO Jon Weisz. “It was a whole year’s worth of work. But it was Simone Raab’s patience and diligence as the first Sales Beta user that made it all the happen.”
Last year we announced work toward being able to quote, contract, invoice, fulfill, and recognize revenue through JMP systems – as opposed to through the SAS systems we’ve relied on for more than 30 years. We’ve been calling this the “quote-to-cash” process, and it launched earlier this month as a Beta test in Germany because we have great support from SAS Legal and contract groups there. Also, one country is easier to experiment with than a large region.
“This transaction represents what so many have been working toward over the past year,” said Digital Operation’s John Jones. “We’ve created the ability to process orders through JMP systems: Salesforce CPQ for quoting, DocuSign CLM for contracting, Salesforce Identity and Experience for delivering the software, and NetSuite for collecting and tracking the revenue. And all these systems are tightly integrated so that data is always in sync throughout the process.”
Finance manager for Revenue Tara Kupselaitis said the team is thrilled to send the first invoice out of NetSuite. “The energy was palpable yesterday as we saw JMP’s first Euros on the books and clicked submit on our invoice record, sending it to our very first customer. We are so grateful to all the teams that worked so hard to make this transaction a reality!”
On the Business Operations team alone, it took three people: Valencia Burt manually screened company and contracts for restricted party access; Sharon Hamrick validated the company information; and Kate Fitzgerald handled the pre- and post-processing work.

Jeff Perkinson said the camaraderie in the Teams chat was extraordinary. "We’ve all been watching the process and helping each other understand what was happening. It was just as exciting as it was to ship the first copies of JMP 34 years ago."
Simone’s successful sale that, she said, “went through all the systems nicely,” was to FibreCoat, an innovative start-up from Aachen, Germany, that manufacturers polymer coatings. Like SAS, FibreCoat got its start in a university setting where several innovators dared to try new things. According to the company website, “We are convinced that continuous progress in material sciences will sustainably improve our environment, our society, and our lives. Therefore, in our pursuit of innovation, we realize sustainable, accessible, and affordable materials for our planet and beyond.”
You can see why Simone found FibreCoat to be a good fit for JMP. In fact, as soon as the FibreCoat employee downloaded the JMP trial, Simone said, “the user immediately saw the value of JMP, so funds were approved immediately.”

From a conversation with the customer, Simone and Christian Waldbuesser learned that the user thought JMP was “easy to use.” They knew the company would profit from the various DoE capabilities and mixture designs for their formulation work in R&D. In the future, the user knew JMP could play a part in process improvement for their FibreCoat technology, producing products that are more sustainable and affordable, and reducing energy in production and processing.
While the deal was a single copy of JMP, FibreCoat is a company to keep an eye on. “FibreCoat is still in startup mode,” explained Simone. “However, if the technology adapts across the industry, they might quickly hire more engineers and scientists.” And that means more opportunity for DACH T1 and for JMP Statistical Discovery LLC.
