Workflow Builder with Dashboards

All platform reports have the option to save script to workflow.  Dashboards, unfortunately, do not have this option.  You can get a Dashboard into the workflow by creating a custom action in Workflow Builder and pasting the Dashboard script into that custom action.  But this missing feature is odd and I'm wondering why Dashboards don't have this option, or am I missing something on how to get a Dashboard into your workflow?

Hi Mark,

Oh interesting! I don't think it was an active choice to exclude Save to Workflow from Dashboards, but rather that the Save Script menu for Dashboards build custom and probably didn't inherit the addition that was made for platforms. 

As for saving, if you are recording and you run and then close a Dashboard it will be added to Workflow Builder the same way reports are (as a report snapshot), so no need to capture the jsl yourself to add a custom step.

I think it might be both broken and maybe missing something. I just created a dashboard using the Workflow Builder (new workflow, hit record, open big class, one graph builder, one distribution, check box in the bottom right corner, bottom right menu...combine windows). When I closed the new dashboard (maybe what you're missing?), the step shows up in the Workflow Builder. Stop recording.

BUT, when I run it, only the data table shows up unless I modify line 1 of the script for the dashboard from 

 

Current Data Table( table1 );

to 

 

Current Data Table(  );

 

After that, the dashboard pulls up just fine. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Unless, of course, you're talking about a different way to make a dashboard.

Of course the obvious solution is what I missed which is you can save reports to workflows by closing the report, including dashboards.  

But @Jed_Campbell , brings up an interesting point that the table1 reference generated in the dashboard script inside the workflow is bugged.  I was able to duplicate this behavior as well.

@Jed_Campbell , @mzwald -- I noticed this bug too. Reported it to tech support, it's already in JIRA, hopefully will be fixed in 17.1.

It appears to be fixed in JMP 18 EA2.
