STIPS moves to JMP 17

As of Jan. 12, 2023, our free online course Statistical Thinking for Industrial Problem Solving (STIPS) has been updated to JMP^® 17. This includes JMP demo videos, instructional videos, the JMP Virtual Lab, exercises, practices, quizzes, and the STIPS teaching materials at jmp.com/statisticalthinking.

These updates are for the English version of STIPS only. Plans are underway to update STIPS on Coursera and the translated versions of STIPS (Korean, Japanese, Chinese and Spanish) to JMP 17 in 2023.

Course progress and end-of-module badging for current students should not be impacted. However, please contact elearn@sas.com if you or your customers encounter any technical issues.

Outstanding news and huge congratulations to this team. JMP STIPS (jmp.com/statisticalthinking) is one of the best applied practical statistics courses out there -- free or otherwise. Even without doing the demos or answering the practice questions, the video content is very stimulating, concise (broken up into short ~3–7-minute video modules), and useful. The written transcripts are also a really great feature for knowledge sharing.

@mia_stephens If you had to summarize maybe 3 to 5 primary updates from the original course version (for those of us who took it at JMP ver 15), what would they be, and where to study them in the course structure?

@PatrickGiuliano, the updates are largely to capture changes in the product since JMP 15 - there is no new content.

The most impacted topic is sample size (module 4), with the new Sample Size Explorer replacing the legacy Sample Size and Power utility. This required fairly substantial changes throughout the lesson.

Otherwise, most of the changes were due to menu reorganization, changes to the layout of JMP output, look and feel, and defaults. We didn't update minor little things that users might not notice, so there might be a few things we missed. But, we tried to update anything that was directly covered or discussed.
