Welcome to the JMP Development Update for January 6, 2023!
In important release news, we have now reached our JMP 17.1 Code Approval milestone. As I mentioned in this morning’s email, logic changes in JMP code made after this date will require approval by 4 people on the JMP Approvers list. Please see the JMP Code Approval Mode Confluence page for full details about this time in the release cycle. We’ll continue approval mode until we reach JMP 17.1 Code Freeze on 1/27/23.
As we look ahead to the start of the JMP 18 Early Adopter program planned to kick off in February, JMP product manager Bryan Fricke has offered to present (with dev team collaborators) on a UX process they have been using together to gather input on new features. Various teams have already taken advantage of this process to improve features under development, and you too can leverage it to learn about and optimize your JMP 18 features! A reminder that we’ll start the dev meeting at 10:30 am on Thursday to permit a break after the kickoff session.
Finally, thanks to Audrey Shull for sharing this week’s Jira Tip of the Week!
If you have worked with Jira tickets this week, you may have noticed that we cleaned up the values available in the Resolution field. (Thanks, Lisa Grossman!) We went from 19 items, many of which were similar, to a smaller list. The most notable change is that Fixed is no longer an option. All Fixed/Completed/Done items should use Completed (which is the default). Some additional details are available in Resolution Cleanup.

JMP Development Updates
JMP Live
- Aurora: 18.0: Support fetching the entire folder tree structure for a given space. Miscellaneous: Working on Perforce --> Git. Held demo for Beijing team. Polishing up confluence guidance. Completing the transition. JMP Live is now using Git exclusively for versions 18.0+! Apart from that, coming up with new data & reports for JMP Live demos.
Statistics
- Elizabeth: Negative binomial, a highly requested distribution for count data, has finally been pushed. Discrepancies noted when comparing to SAS GLIMMIX turned out to be a recently introduced bug in GLIMMIX on Windows. Older versions of GLIMMIX do not have the issue and agree with the JMP implementation. A fix for the GLIMMIX bug is ongoing, I hear. Lesson: trust thyself more! :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes: Now moving on to other, more straightforward distributions, before tackling the Beta distribution for continuous proportions and then repeated measures/spatial structures.
- Laura C-S: Continued work on robust inference in SEM. Specifically, I’ve been researching and implementing the robust corrections to all the fit indices in the platform. I’m also preparing my slides for my European Discovery recording.
- John Sall: Fix unchecking Hide mode in Design Space Profiler (JMP-15141). Work on calling Chris's new mixed model code from Fit Response Screening for Genomics models (see more details in Confluence here).
- Ryan P: Fixed JMP-3589 for 17.1, which maintains the Validation column format when calling Save Data or Save Summaries in FDE. This now makes it easier for users to maintain their training, validation, and test data splits.
- Annie: Continuing work on the Short Run Control Charts.
Stat Documentation
- Michael C: Reviewed 17.1 help build, verified a JiraBot fix that Myron made, and made updates to Jiras from the past few months to fill in some doc fields that hadn’t been updated automatically by JiraBot prior to Myron’s fix.
Stat Testing
- Mark: Closing tickets for Easy DOE in JMP 17.1. Documenting the development process for Easy DOE for the UI/UX workstream. Adding an edit feature to Jacob’s tool to automate the generation of a usability study. Developing extensive test protocol using covering arrays for new Load Design feature in Easy DOE for JMP 17.1. Answer questions in JMP Community.
- Tonya: EA9 expired on December 31 so I’ve been working on gathering the last little bit of beta information that came in between my presentation and December 31 and adding it to the table and reports. I’ve also been working on bug verification.
- Jacob: Testing Load Design in Easy DOE, Space Filling Design, and designs with covariates and the updated DOE Dialog script when covariates are included.
Product Management
- Bryan F: Processed data from several usability tests for JMP Projects. In addition, I developed “stories” for the usability process used for JMP WFB and JMP Search, which entailed editing videos from prior usability studies, and collecting/organizing artifacts from other parts of the process.
Technical Support

- Josh: JMP Live Story and Bug testing, Server admin work, and set up my pc to pull from GIT for JMP Live 18.0 builds. Created new na.sas.com certs for the dev/test servers since the current certs are expiring on the 20th of January.
- Lisa: Worked on 17.1 and 18.0 verifications, entered a boxplot shortest half bug that Praveena encountered, and submitted resolution changes in Jira.
- Audrey: Working out GitHub+Jira integration details with the Digital Commerce Team, planning for 2023.
- Anna: Adding tests for issues reported in 2022.
