This presentation begins with an analysis of a melting furnace that has an undisturbed, simple chemical reactor. We enhance the set of measured factors by additional glass and process-specific, nonlinear ones, which are based on results from laboratory and engineering knowledge. For model identification, we use PLS and calculate a T2 distance. The result is a hierarchical process model with easy-to-interpret JSL functions as complex factors. Based on the profiler, a dashboard is developed that allows process engineers to explore and optimize process settings depending on the age of the furnace. The interpretation of T2 as an extrapolation measure helps to estimate the uncertainty of calculated values.
