Duval triangle in JMP?Is it possible to get a Duval triangle in JMP?
I have a lead in Mexico that is using the trial, and he said he's tried to get a 'triangle plot' and a Duval analysis.
The Duval triangle looks a lot like a ternary plot to me, but it seems that it is used as a diagnostic tool with "zones" based on the proportion of 3 gasses. Is it possible to use a ternary plot (or any other option) in JMP for this purpose, or should I log this in the wish list?
Re: Duval triangle in JMP?Awesome work Dan. I very much appreciate the fast turnaround.
Re: Duval triangle in JMP?Years ago I created a similar "background" for USDA soil classification. The attached table has a script that will add the Duval regions to a ternary plot, using the coordinates in the post that @stan_koprowski mentioned. It is somewhat modular, so it should not be much work to incorporate it into other scripts or modify for different regions.
Note that for JMP we do not need to do quite as much math - you can specify the points in ternary space (X1, X2, leaving out the X3). When looking at references like these it is important to match the JMP ternary coordinates correctly, so I had to swap some values to get things correct. This is what it will look like:

Re: Duval triangle in JMP?Thank you very much, Stan.
Since the person is new to JMP and using a trial, I'll suggest the Python option as the best solution for now, since the feature is not natively available in JMP. Thank you again.
Re: Duval triangle in JMP?Hi Marilyn,
Here is an example with the math and explanation on how to plot the Duval triangle.
- It looks like it would be fairly straight forward to implement via JSL. Perhaps @danschikore could determine if feasible without any JSL.
- There is also some Python code to generate the Duval triangle so you could use the Python Integration functions in the short term since the customer is using a trial.
Re: Duval triangle in JMP?Someone with enough time/patience/skill could likely customize the ternary plot to overlay these zones, but I'm unaware of a JMP feature to do it. Hopefully someone else has a better answer.
