Der Wechsel von einem Laborentwicklungschemiker zu einem Datenwissenschaftler war wahrscheinlich der größte Übergang. Ich hatte angefangen, Kollegen bei statistischen Problemen auszuhelfen. Ich wusste, dass es für mich war, weil es sich nicht wie Arbeit anfühlte, wenn ich Menschen mit ihren Daten half.
Hatten Sie Bedenken, etwas zu ändern? Wenn ja, welche waren das?
Ich war vielleicht ein bisschen besorgt, dass ich mich in eine Nische bewege, wo es in Zukunft weniger Möglichkeiten geben könnte. Ich war auch besorgt, dass ich nicht wusste, wie man den Job macht! Aber ich war sehr lernbegierig.
Was waren die ersten Dinge, die Sie getan haben, als Sie entschieden haben, dass Sie bereit sind, den Job zu wechseln?
Es war schrittweise, aber ich nutzte jede Gelegenheit, um „den Job zu machen“, bevor ich den Job hatte. Wenn jemand Hilfe brauchte und ich nicht wusste, wie es geht, habe ich die Arbeit angenommen und dann gelernt, wie man es macht. Ich habe viel gelernt, indem ich tat, was nötig war. Später erhielt ich eine formelle Ausbildung durch einen berufsbegleitenden Master-Abschluss.

Ich hatte einige Zeit mit anderen Personen verbracht, die in dieser Position arbeiteten, sowohl im Unternehmen als auch in anderen Unternehmen, indem ich mich auf Konferenzen traf. Es war eine großartige Möglichkeit zu verstehen, was möglich ist, und hat mich mit Leidenschaft dafür angespornt, diesem Weg zu folgen.
Wer waren die Personen, die Ihnen dabei geholfen haben, den Jobwechsel erfolgreich zu gestalten, wie haben sie Ihnen geholfen?
Meine Vorgesetzten waren am wichtigsten. Sie haben mich in jeder Phase unterstützt, weil mir klar war, was ich tun wollte und wie wertvoll es für das Unternehmen sein würde.
