What inspired this Wish List Request? Please describe the current issue that needs improvement, or the new problem to be solved that is not easy or possible right now
JupyterLab is a web-based platform for notebooks, code, and data. Its customizable interface lets users configure data science, scientific computing, computational journalism, and machine learning workflows. Notebook documents created using the Jupyter Notebook App contains cell based data tables and computer code (e.g. Python) and rich text (paragraphs, equations, diagrams, links, etc...). Notebook are both human-readable and executable, comprising the analysis description and results (figures, tables, etc.). And is the prevalent opensource choice and emerging as an emerging file standard for data exchange in several application areas, and the preferred choice for its interactive computing across multiple programming languages capabilities.
Please describe the new or improved feature or solution you would like to see. With JMP’s foray into several new areas that involve Jupyter Notebook users. Jupyter Notebooks are frequently used in tasks involving data science and computer programming. assisting with data organization and analysis. A Jupyter Notebook document is a JSON file with the ".ipynb" extension. Metadata, notebook format, and cell lists make up Jupyter Notebooks. Since JMP already has support for JSON, it will be easy to extend the support further to this open-source standard. In addition, a method for opening *.ipynb files will allow JMP users to open datatables or execute Python code natively. It can be deployed as a feature in File > Database / Internet Open
What would the value be to you and/or other users if this new feature is provided?
Jupyter Notebook is a preferred file interchange format and is also cloud deployable. It will provide value to users who use this file standard but have to resort to methods of extracting data or code.
Is this an external customer request?
No, but the widespread use of this file standard in the data science industry as well as academia is worth exploring.
Is there a competitive software package that has this feature or solution that we should be aware of?
SAS, Mathematica, Maple support this format also LaTeX editors support it
Will this impact a renewal, expansion, or adoption at a customer, and does this put an account at risk if we do not address this?
No, not right away, but it would be a valuable addition to our offering to data science, publication workflows and academic users.
