Josh Staunton served as a Communication Officer in the United States Marine Corps from 2002-2006 active duty and Reserves from 2006-2010.
Veterans Day, or Armistice Day, is a federal holiday in the United States observed annually on Nov. 11 that celebrates and honors the service of all US military veterans.

For Senior Account Executive Josh Staunton, Veterans Day is about remembering the selfless people he served with. “It’s about taking the time to appreciate the service of all the women and men who have donned the uniform to ensure this experiment in democracy doesn’t fail,” he said.
For years Josh didn’t march in his town’s Memorial Day parade or do much volunteering as he raised his young family. “Once I had a little more free time, I looked at volunteering differently and thought, 'if not me, then who?'” he said. “Once I re-embraced this attitude, I became motivated to serve again and began seeking out ways to give back to the community, at my local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) organization and as a member of the Alternative Energy Committee.”
“One of my goals for the coming year is to make the VFW post more environmentally-friendly, and financially stable, by installing solar panels and battery back-up that will help during power outages which happen frequently.”

Josh is always looking for ways to leverage JMP in his volunteer work. “My teammate Christian Stopp (@christianstopp) will soon learn that I need his help creating some JMP Public graphs to show the positive impact that a solar array in town has had over the last five years,” he said. “My manager Ashley Prince (@ashley_prince) has been very supportive. I’ve been able to use my annual volunteer time to punch the volunteer clock and give back.”

While there are many veteran charities out there, not all are created equal. Josh recommends Fisher House if you would like to donate. They are a highly-rated veteran charity that provides housing for the families of wounded vets so they can be near each other while the veteran receives medical treatment for injuries incurred while serving.
