***Reminder: the deadline to request new Sample Data Tables or changes to existing tables is next Monday, November 7. ***
Welcome to the JMP Development Update for November 4, 2022! I can tell from your updates below that everyone has been very busy working on JMP 18 features and tooling updates. We’re definitely getting comfortable in our new Jira and Confluence home. I’m working through updates to Jira How-To pages and created a new FAQ page about JMP’s various Atlassian products. Swarm changelists are now linking to Jira issues thanks to Nick and Myron’s JiraBot 2.0 is in testing.
No doubt you’ve each figured out your own ways to view your working lists in Jira by now. Many people in JMP – especially testers - rely on Verification dashboards that we were maintaining in old Jira. Audrey has created two dashboards in the new Jira that you may want to check out in the future.
- JMP Verifications – mimics the old verification page we have. Two lists, one for 17.1 and one for 18.0 – you can click on your total number of verifications, or just, say the Critical or Major list to focus on a few at a time.
- Verifications for Current User – a different view, listing all your issues, since the filter is based on “current user”. Note that there are quite a few items on this list still from 17.0.
Audrey says that as always, she is open to suggestions. If you have a view that you like and find useful, please share it and maybe others will use it as well.
Since it is voting season, I also wanted to mention that there are several issues in Atlassian’s own customer-facing Jira system that Audrey, John and I would like to invite everyone in JMP to go vote for! All of these issues have been encountered by JMP people in the last week, and perhaps our votes will move the meter on some of these so that they may be addressed in a future release:
Here is one more we’ve encountered that is marked Won’t Fix: JRACLOUD-76566
Finally, Audrey passed on your Jira Cloud Tip of the Week…from newly minted JMP Live distinguished team lead Eric Hill who pointed out there are some useful keyboard shortcuts available to us in the new Jira experience. (And while we’re at it, big congratulations go out to Eric on his new title recognizing his ongoing leadership of the JMP Live development team!)
Have you noticed when looking at a Jira in the new Cloud version that down under the Comments section it says:

Well, M is not the only shortcut key available to you!
A - jumps to the Assignee field
C - Create an issue
D - Drops down the status menu
I - Immediately sets the Assignee field to you.
L - Jumps to the Labels field
W - Toggles your watcher status

JMP Development Updates
Statistics
- John Sall: Responded to feedback from a meeting with Phil Ramsey and Marie Gaudard about Design Space Profiler.
- With huge Ensemble Boosted Neural formulas and many simulation runs, it was taking Phil more than 2 hours to bring up Design Space Profiler (24 minutes on my Mac).
- After implementing multithreading using David White's new routines, that came down to 1.5 minutes on my Mac. (JMP-14571)
- There is now a new option to show the current profiler values in the Design Space Profiler. (JMP-14555) Also. if you uncheck the Design Space Profiler, it will now remove it rather than just hide it. (JMP-14554)
- With SVEM and Boosted Neural, as well as Bootstrap Forest and Boosted Trees, there is a trend towards using extremely large formulas, which we will have to support. Here is just half of one of Phil's prediction formulas, after some reformatting to reduce the number of decimals.

- Jianfeng: Working on nonparametric equivalence test feature (JMP-7962). Although work is not yet fully complete, some key implementations such as numerical calculation and nonparametric selection from the launch dialog are done. Here are snapshots of the report and launch dialog.

- Laura C-S: Prepared and presented a SEM Developer Tutorial along with James. Met with a consultant at the UNC Odum Institute, along with Curt, to coordinate an upcoming SEM presentation and offer support for a potential SEM course in the spring using JMP Pro. Continued working on some final 17.1 bug fixes.

Answered questions in the JMP Community.
- Jacob: Testing DOE in Debug and leaks enabled builds. Testing an issue copying and pasting Categorical tables into Excel. Testing ADI and PCA Randomized SVD with Blas and investigating unit test failures. Analyzing preliminary results of DOE Factor UI usability study and preparing a presentation with Mark Bailey.
- Tonya: Updating unit tests due to recent ANOMV and goal plot changes. Answered user community questions about CCB. Working with V17 beta data. Bug verification.
Life Sciences Updates
- The JMP Life Sciences group had a great time at the Drive Shack to celebrate the JMP Clinical 17.0 release coming up on 11/15/2022. JMP Clinical 17.0 will be available in English only. More clinical reports will be coming in 17.1 and 17.2. The LS team expects to translate the JMP Clinical user interface into Simplified Chinese for 17.2, and they are also working towards support for tables containing Simplified Chinese and Japanese characters for that release.

- Wenjun: Attended a CDISC board meeting and presented “Trace CDISC Application in FDA NDAs and CRs for Clinical Trial Safety” at the CDISC Interchange conference last week. Also learned that the European Medicines Agency announced an evaluation of JMP Clinical as a visualization tool at an April CDISC European Interchange meeting – making JMP Clinical the only visualization tool on their evaluation list for data access and analysis!

Product Management
- Product management is conducting a survey of EA members to learn about use of Columns Viewer, Header Graphs and basic analysis steps and challenges when working with new data. So far, over 115 EA members have responded (in 2 days).
- Mia: Thanks to a group that met with Phil Ramsey and Marie Gaudard on Monday to talk about mixture designs, SVEM, and Design Space Profiler among other topics. Participated in an internal meeting with Annie Z and others to talk about plans for Short Run control charts. Met with Ryan L, Peng, and Sam to discuss DOE and Reliability priorities for JMP 18.
Technical Support
- Duane: Following up from last week, some of the CIVE problems have been corrected, but some customers are still unable to request JMP 17 upgrades with the tool. IT is still working on it. We remain diligent in our mission to provide top quality support to our customers! Here are the TS JMP Live reports and the usual plot below.

- Mandy: Testing Workflow builder fixes for JMP 18.0 fixes. Working a bit on Data filter and Local data filter issues and trying to add tests for completed and verified Jira issues. Organizing workflows collected over the 17.0 testing cycle to save and rerun as regression tests. Adding a few more Workflow builder JSL tests to testing suite at 17.1 and 18.0 as time allows.
- Mike M: Started digging into Column Viewer to understand how it would be used by customers. Also started testing Aaron’s EditFocus updates. Updated my Sikuli results JSL scripts to better calculate total run time for the tests – allows me to re-run tests without killing the run times already there. Created new Jira dashboards and verified a couple defects.
- Josh L: Updated my Jira and Confluence bookmarks to point to the new environments. Worked with Aurora on trying to recreate a dead lock I was seeing on JMP Live. (I was unable to duplicate this issue). JMP Live Story testing. JMP Live installer testing.

- Sibusizo: Finalizing the implementation of the correct color gradient application on cellplots.
DOE
- Ryan L: Attended Georgia Statistics Day and gave a talk on testing statistical software. Presented on the team’s research, talked about working at JMP and shared details about the open positions we have posted. A group of JMP users from the CDC found me at lunch, asked for my slides and paper, and were very interested in covering arrays and statistical testing approaches.
- Peng: Prepare a joint JMP Dev presentation with other members in the DOE group on the usability study of the new Factor List prototypes. Prepare a technical presentation on Factor List codebase to DOE group. Continue working with Bill Meeker on research.
- Ryan: Investigating 17.1 fixes, interviews and reviewing resumes for our internship position, and last week’s Georgia Statistics Day was a success (I presented on testing statistical software, and what it’s like to work at JMP).
Host
- John Schroedl: Investigating and fixing some warnings related to C++ 20 in prep for possibly enabling JMP to build with that standard. Many thanks to Dave White for updating JString with changes related to supporting UTF-8 string literals! Remaining build issues are all related to our risky use of comparing floating point variables against enums as constants (C5055). Also, we have many places where we add or subtract eum values from differing enums. Support for this suspicious practice is also deprecated in C++ 20 (C5054, P1120R0 ). Fixed high dpi issue with checkbox and radios. Discussed WinUI and WPF futures.
- Paul N: Beginning to set up map server on new host on the external network fabric. Access credentials was finally granted this week. Began taking the Level 2 Product Security training modules in Saba. Two of the five are now complete. Helped triage the JMP 18 update to activation.
- Daniel Powell: The AWS Activation Server is in testing after a few fixes were pushed.
HTML5
- Resolved a bug with Interactive HTML failing to load with a local data filter filtering on a column of all data missing (JMPHTML-1857). Fixed a problem where bars were hidden in interactive HTML (but not in JMP) in the presence of hidden rows and missing data in the frequency role (JMPHTML-1664). Addressed a bug where the statistic for missing data was displayed incorrectly in Interactive HTML tooltips (JMPHTML-1859).
- Paul Spychala: HTML added initial support for Random Effects and GLMM Conditional Profiler [JMPHTML-1826,JMPHTML-1858] for 18.0.
JMP Live
- Michael G: Attended VueConf 2022 virtually. Learned a lot more about Vue 3 and most importantly Vuetify 3 and the upgrade timeline. Vue 2 is also going end of life at the end of 2023, but we are currently blocked by Vuetify 3.1. It should be coming out in about 3 months according to the maintainers. I also learned that all of Vue’s webpack based tooling is going into maintenance and we will need to switch to Vite in the future. I have already been working on that migration and it is still ongoing. I have also been working on various refactoring tasks as we get started on 18.0.
- Aurora: 17.1 - Performed final check of translated strings against Jest tests. 18.0 - Investigated and hopefully fixed a deadlock seen last week on a server under extreme load. Removed some obsolete REST API routes. Miscellaneous: Gathered info about missing images on the new Jira instance (passed to Audrey). Working on Perforce --> Git change for JMP Live.
