Every November, Native American Heritage Month, (also referred to as “American Indian Heritage Month”), is celebrated to recognize the diverse cultures, rich histories, accomplishments, and contributions of Native Americans. The day after Thanksgiving is the annual National Native American Heritage Day, which falls on Friday, Nov. 26 this year.
See this Inside SAS article for more about native nomenclature, resources, and upcoming events.
Join JMP's Alisa Hunt-Lowery for a lunch and learn
On Monday, Nov. 14, SAS is hosting an interactive lunch and learn featuring JMP’s very own Alisa Hunt-Lowery (@alisa_h_lowery), as well as SAS employees Brandi Davis, Seth Locklear, and Sandon Jacobs. This event is an opportunity for you to learn more about indigenous culture, especially in North Carolina, and get answers to your frequently (sometimes fearfully) asked questions.
This event is virtual and requires registration. You can also ask questions anonymously in advance.
Two cousins and a Discovery Summit
In honor of Native American Heritage Month, we’re re-reading this story of our JMP colleagues, Alisa Hunt-Lowery & Jessica Marquardt (@J_Marquardt), where they share how they met and some history of their Lumbee tribal heritage and culture!
Alisa has also used her extensive skills and the power of JMP to track the US population of American Indians and Alaska Natives. You can view her work in JMP Public.
