LinkedIn profile.
Owen Julianto Jonathan (@Owen_Jonathan) joins our UKT1 team as an Associate Systems Engineer having previously worked as a JMP Intern for the last 12 months. Originally from Jakarta, Indonesia, Owen moved to the UK to study Biotechnology at the University of Manchester (UoM) followed by a Master of Research in Systems and Synthetic Biology from Imperial College London. You may recognize him from the blog series he did earlier in the year on the use of JMP in Synthetic Biology.
He was introduced to JMP during his second year of undergraduate when representing UoM in the iGEM competition, the largest international synthetic biology conference in the world. For the competition, he used DoE to optimize the expression of an enzyme.
This early interest in DoE motivated Owen to become a JMP intern and learn more about the use of DoE in his field of study and related areas. Synthetic biology has so much potential to solve some of our world’s largest problems, but he found working as a lab scientist was not the right fit for him. At JMP, he found a way to contribute to his field of biotechnology and related industries by exposing more researchers and scientists to DoE. Recently, Owen returned to the iGEM conference, to represent JMP and deliver a DoE workshop with a synthetic biology case study.
In his personal time, Owen likes to play video games, watch Anime, read fantasy books, and try out the newest Asian restaurants in the city. He runs a YouTube channel about a mobile game where he makes guides and records his gameplay. This passion project that he started during the pandemic has grown to have 9,000 subscribers today.
