Categorical Single Response - Count Missing Responses - Checked/UncheckedHi JMP,
Running JMP 12.1
The attached file has a rating variable coded is three typical ways that survey vendors may indicate missing values. There are two scripts saved in the file. Please run both.
For single response asking to see the missing values with “count missing responses” checked gives a good report on all three variables. Here is part of it. There are two missing values and the total responses is correct at 9.
Run the scripts in the attachment to see the graphic.
Here is the same report but “count missing responses” is unchecked. There are two missing values and the total responses is correct at seven. It would be better if the “Not Answer” level with zero was not shown on the first variable. A value label is defined as 6 = Not Answer but the Missing value is set as six and we are asking to not count missing responses. The tables shows zero Not Answers (there are really two). Take a look at how the other two variables report.
Run the Scripts in the attachment to see the graphic.

Re: Categorical Single Response - Count Missing Responses - Checked/Unchecked - Status changed to: DeclinedRe: Categorical Single Response - Count Missing Responses - Checked/UncheckedIn a conversation with rogers.gd0 earlier this year, we agreed that the two options, Include Responses Not in the Data and Count Missing Responses can and should interact if you have defined a Value Label for the missing value code.
I've archived this request as a result.
Re: Categorical Single Response - Count Missing Responses - Checked/Unchecked<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />Hi Jeff, Thanks for your patience. This is the example sent to support@jmp.com.
I want to include missing (Not Answer). Correct output Not answer = 2. Notice that Fair is equal to 0.

Now exclude missing but show responses not in data. Wrong output Not Answer does not equal 0.

Yes, now I exclude responses not in the data and exclude missing. But now the report does not include Fair. Fair was a level. It was a possible response. It was a response that was not in the data but it is not missing.

This is easy example but when you have shampoo brands used in last 6 mo. We want to exclude missing but show brands that were asked but had no users like Taeq brand.
Take care,
Mike
Re: Categorical Single Response - Count Missing Responses - Checked/UncheckedInclude Responses Not in the Data uses the Value Label property to determine the possible values and shows all of them.
Since you've defined a Value Label for 6=Not Answered you'll need to turn off the option Include Responses Not in the Data to prevent its display in the report once you've turned off the option to Count Missing Responses.
These options are independent of each other. Neither the Value Label property nor the Include Responses Not in the Data knows about missing values.
Re: Categorical Single Response - Count Missing Responses - Checked/UncheckedHi Jeff,
If I have a level like "Not Answer" and it is defined as a Missing Value then unchecking the box "Count missing responses" should remove it from the report. Right now, if I check it then I get Not Answer = 2. If I uncheck it then I get Not Answer = 0. So which is right? How many missing responses do I have?
"Include Responses Not in the Data" lets me show levels that no one selected. So valid responses to a question may be E, VG, G, F, P. But if no one selected P, then I may wish to see it in the Cat report. It is not a missing value, it was not a response chosen by this population.
Does this make sense?
Thanks,
Mike
Re: Categorical Single Response - Count Missing Responses - Checked/UncheckedThe option "Include Responses not in Data" controls the display of Value/Label combinations that are not in the data.
