Text Explorer not picking up Negation term?Hi all! Not sure if you have encountered this situation before. I am trying to do some sentiment analysis and had thought that JMP's algorithm would automatically pick up negation term and assign a negative score. But in this instance where the comment says "not ideal", JMP is only picking up "ideal" and assigning a positive score for that comment. When I hover over the word "not", it does indicate that "not" is a negation term. However, it's not recognizing that the phrase "not ideal" indicates negative sentiment, and therefore is assigning a high positive score (+90) based on the word "ideal". Thoughts?
Re: Text Explorer not picking up Negation term?Hello,
Not is a default stop work in JMP. To override 'not' as a stop word click on the red triangle > term options > Manage Stop words. Add 'not' to local exceptions list. Now 'not' will appear in your list.

Re: Text Explorer not picking up Negation term?Thank you, Brian! That worked very well. Now, how do we make JMP pick up the phrase that indicates negative sentiment, but it's only picking up the positive word and assigning a positive sentiment score? For example, in the sentence "The coffee I get is not always the best", JMP is only picking up "best" and assigning a high positive sentiment score since it's not recognizing "not always the best" phrase. Any thoughts on this?
Re: Text Explorer not picking up Negation term?@slamic2, You have to add the phrase "not always the best" to the analysis and then run sentiment analysis. If you select a phrase in the sentiment Summary then you can assign a sentiment. Hope this helps
