With all the talk lately of "JMP for the Cloud" as well as the new pricing model rolled out on 10/1/2022 with JMP for the Cloud add-on pricing, there is some confusion about what is possible for organizations and their desire to provide virtual desktop environments (VDIs) to their end-users and software therein to use on these VDIs.
Fortunately, the cloud vendors (Amazon, Microsoft, Google) make this trivially easy and we should know how to talk to this when it comes up in sales conversations. Odds are our customers have a similar workflow to our own workflow here at SAS (we should, of course ask, however).
This is a desktop license of JMP, not JMP for the Cloud.
In the short video I show:
- What SAS provides to its employees for a Windows Cloud PC on Azure
- The request process, approval and provisioning of the cloud PC.
- Downloading and installing the JMP 17 trial and using the Cloud PC in a browser.
You can read more about Windows 365 Cloud PCs here.
Note this was completely self-service and rules-driven for me. And automatic and rules-driven for our IT department. After the compute resource was provisioned, installing JMP was the very same experience as using a physical PC laptop.
Remote Desktop is the better experience for this type of compute resource. To access the cloud PC from Remote Desktop, click Add -> Workspace and use the following URL, following the steps the app gives you.
