The third quarter is often the busiest time for the academic team as universities ramp up for the academic year with new licenses, new courses and accompanying instructor support. To address these needs, the academic team launched its first faculty newsletter with a preview of upcoming events and teaching resources. The newsletter will go out twice a year (before the fall and spring academic terms). They also have some exciting new product offerings available in Q4, including the new Academic Suite (campuswide) and JMP Pro for Academic Researchers. Both offerings align with the needs of instructors and researchers, and they expect this to translate to new users in Q4 and beyond. Here’s a summary of some of top achievements in Q3.
AMERICAS
Rensselaer Polytechnic InstituteRensselaer Polytechnic InstituteRensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), a target engineering school, recently acquired a campuswide Academic Suite license. Though JMP is used elsewhere in both the Biotechnology and Environmental Sciences departments, this new license was spearheaded by the Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) department.
The Chair of the ISE department attended the INFORMS conference where she participated in the JMP workshop and visited with Kevin Potcner (@Potcner) afterwards to learn more. Kevin proposed and delivered a virtual workshop series to illustrate how JMP is an ideal software to teach a variety of statistical techniques within the curriculum (EDA, DOE, SQC and predictive modeling). The response was positive, and the department moved forward with the enterprise license immediately with Pany Allen (@pany_allen) consolidating all users into the new campuswide Academic Suite and the school adding four new courses using JMP Pro.
The University of Texas at Austin is another top engineering school. The region has seen its tech industry grow substantially, so UT-Austin and its Electrical and Computer Engineering department is an important talent pipeline. Chuck London (@chuck_london) and Ross Metusalem (@Ross_Metusalem) organized and delivered (with an assist from Kevin) an initial virtual workshop attended by 28 faculty and graduate students. The department expressed interest in a series of workshops and installing JMP Pro on all grad student laptops in the future.
Two professors in the Tulane University School of Medicine recently adopted JMP Pro for conducting immunobiology research, including on biomarkers of SARS-CoV-2 immunity. Ross Metusalem held a 90-minute onboarding workshop for the professors and their graduate students and postdocs, covering a range of techniques from exploratory graphing to cluster analysis to penalized regression. The workshop introduced 16 new users to JMP Pro and helped further JMP’s positive impact on the fight against Covid.
Other notable Q3 wins in the Americas include University of Chicago, University of Alberta, University of Wisconsin Stevens-Point, University of North Texas, University of Rhode Island, Sweet Briar College, Virginia State University, Northeastern Illinois University, University of Findlay and University of Portland.
ASIA
Ming Chi University of TechnologyMing Chi University of TechnologyThe Department of Industrial Engineering and Management at Ming Chi University of Technology has decided to add four more courses using JMP over the next two years. As a result, they’ve upgraded their Academic Suite license to install JMP Pro into more classrooms and student computers.
Ming Chi University is considered one of the top technical and vocational universities in Taiwan. Champion and primary user Professor Wang is very enthusiastic about learning JMP. With the help of various JMP webcasts and online workshops the use of JMP has expanded to other faculty and students in the department. Clare Zhang (@Clare) and Juliana Zhou (@JulianaZhou) report that five courses use JMP for statistics, quality control, DOE, machine learning, data analytics and application.
Christ University in Bangalore, India, acquired a JMP Academic Suite and adopted JMP as part of their statistical foundations and multivariate course. Elsewhere the Indian Institute of Management, Udaipur, a premier management education institute, will adopt JMP this semester in multiple courses including Statistics for Management and Data Analytics.

University of SheffieldUniversity of SheffieldThe University of Sheffield, ranked among the top universities in the UK, joined the "campuswide club” recently, and will make JMP Pro available to its ~30K students to learn and use analytics in engineering and scientific courses and for academic research projects. Paolo Chiappa (@paolo_chiappa) mentioned that it also bodes well for our JMP Academic Industry Network (JAIN), given the university’s close academic partnership with top industry users like Boeing, Rolls Royce, Unilever, AstraZeneca, GSK and others.
Volker Kraft (@volker_kraft) held in-person workshops at several target universities, including TU Berlin, RWTH Aachen, University of Manchester, Imperial College and the University of Oxford. At the University of Oxford, which marked the beginning of a collaboration with the Department of Pharmacology, a pilot project testing JMP for QbD and process robustness applications will be underway. This is likely to open the door to a campuswide license in 2023 in one of the most prestigious universities in the world.
