Thanks! This was really useful and seems very important for how we are going to work with customers to help them understand the value of JMP Live. I think there was a comment about needing an "idiot" guide for how to do some of this stuff. This idiot would also find that useful.

@dieter_pisot , @Alex_Lippincott , I need a little help configuring the ODBC connection from desktop JMP 17 to the demo database.

I downloaded this ODBC driver: https://ftp.postgresql.org/pub/odbc/versions/msi/psqlodbc_13_02_0000-x64.zip . Guessing this is the correct one from the ODBC connection string in the refresh script you shared. Can you confirm this is correct?

Then from JMP 17, I choose File > New Database Query, and click on the "New Connection..." button. I create a new User DSN with this driver:

Then I'm taken to a configuration screen. I tried the following from the info you provided:

When I click "Test", I get:

Help???

Update: Alex helped me with the ODBC driver, it's working for me now. Here are the steps if you wish to connect to this demo database from JMP 17 (at least from Windows).

1) Download and install ODBC driver from here: https://ftp.postgresql.org/pub/odbc/versions/msi/psqlodbc_13_02_0000-x64.zip . 

2) Launch the ODBC manager from windows, it's called ODBC Data Sources (64-bit). Add a new User DSN and select the "PostgresSQL Unicode(x64)" driver.

3) Fill out the configuration as follows:

 

Data Source:

Database: datademo

Server: jmpdemo.ckpyug0kokan.us-east-1.rds.amazonaws.com

Port: 5432

User Name: jmpSE

Password: jmpdemo1

Leave all other fields at their defaults, and click "Save"

 

That ought to do it.

I'll try to put together a JMP Live refresh demo to share.
