What inspired this Wish List Request?
Background:
In a high volume manufacturing setting, such as in the Semiconductor Industry, control charts with warnings are vital for all manufacturing, process, and process development engineers. Output metrics from each wafer processing step are usually entered in control charts.
Wafers go in semiconductor processing tools in lots (batches). The wafer fab cycle time can be a couple months and each wafer typically goes over a hundred processing steps that all influence each other and the final yield. The previously mentioned engineers depend on control charts and their warnings to notify them immediately when a non-random pattern has occurred so that they can investigate, troubleshoot and fix any potential problems before wafers move onto next processing steps and also to not slow down the manufacturing line. There is a need for this (as you know) to be as automated as possible, and not depend on the manual checking of control charts by engineers who already have a lot on their plate.
Current JMP Live capabilities and improvement idea:
The control chart warning addition to JMP Live 16 that emails specified groups the control chart warnings when it is published was a gamechanger. Companies definitely started being more intrigued by JMP Live in my territory.
However, I have noticed that it emails all the control chart warnings from the beginning of the control chart (at least in the default setting). In a high volume manufacturing fab, many many lots of wafers are processed each day, so engineers are bound to new warnings triggered each day in a 24/7 operating fab. Reading an email that shows all the triggered warnings since the beginning of the control chart, just is not feasible for a lot of engineers. These engineers are really only interested in the most recent warnings that might not have been investigated yet.
The option to only see new control chart warnings in the JMP Live generated emails would be extremely valuable to that entire industry (and I am sure to others, such as the automobile industry). In other words, it would be beneficial for JMP Live generated emails to not include warnings that were already sent in prior emails.
I have asked around and it does not appear to be a current capability (if it is, I apologize and you can delete this post!). I know there are manual workarounds such as creating a separate report with maybe just the last 5-10 lots and fixed control limits. But ideally, it would just be an easily accessible and visible slider that gives you the option to only include new control chart warnings in the generated emails.
Please describe the new or improved feature or solution you would like to see.
The option to only see new control chart warnings in the JMP Live generated emails. In other words, it would be beneficial for JMP Live generated emails to not include warnings that were already sent in prior emails.
What would the value be to you and/or other users if this new feature is provided?
Make the JMP Live control chart warning generated emails less overwhelming.
Thank you for this suggestion! This clarifies what control chart warning improvement customers would find most useful, and why. I appreciate the time you took to write this up so clearly.
We have an "epic" tracking several possible improvements to the control chart warning feature in JMP Live. I think that this suggestion most closely matches https://rndjira.sas.com/browse/WEBJMP-5694.
I see this posting has been acknowledged, but wanted to note here we had 2 Live demos in the past few days in which it was asked whether they could mark the warnings as 'known' or 'acknowledged' and/or prevent related emails from including them.
I assume this was opened pre-control chart triage when we did include all warnings in each email.
Now that warnings can be triaged we only include warnings that have not been triage yet. I think this satisfies this request to only include new active warnings
