Importing .spc Spectral Files

What inspired this Wish List Request?  JMP can currently import .csv, .xls(x), and jcamp data for analyzing spectral data.  Adam Worrall of Alkermes suggests JMP should at least .spc files.  The .spc file format is one of the most common spectral file formats.

 

Please describe the new or improved feature or solution you would like to see. 

 

What would the value be to you and/or other users if this new feature is provided?

Is there a competitive software package that has this feature or solution that we should be aware of? Unscrambler for sure, maybe others.

 

Will this impact a renewal, expansion, or adoption at a customer, and does this put an account at risk if we do not address this?

@Bill_Worley want to clarify someting you stated.  JMP can import JCAMP files?  I don't believe that is one of the type of files we can import directly, but I do see the addin https://community.jmp.com/t5/JMP-Add-Ins/Spectral-Tools/ta-p/363513 that lets you import simple JCAMP files.

@SamGardner that is correct that JCAMP file import is part of the Spectral Tools add-in.  It is only the most basic JCAMP file type.  The import capability was done with Multiple File Import.

The .SPC format is a binary format, and I can't find a definite specification for it on the internets.

Do you think someone internally could work on updating the spectral tools addin and use the R or Python tools to add the ability to import .SPC?  That would be a good first step.
