Welcome to the JMP Development Update for October 7, 2022!
Well in advance of the upcoming release of JMP 17.0, Anne Milley has been working with customers to gather quotes that we can use in launch materials. She shared this link that you can visit to see all the quotes she’s collected so far. There are many nice comments about major new features, and also a quote I especially liked from Dr. Anderson Mayfield:
With each new version of JMP, there’s always a nice mix of new features we avid users directly requested (via the wish list) as well as things we didn’t even know would benefit our research but for which the development team had the forethought to improve upon (or incorporate anew).
His example of the latter was the tables preview feature which is definitely one of those features I use all the time in JMP 17 and could not live without! I noticed former JMPer Bernd Heinen also commented on how much he liked it. I know we’re all looking forward to more of our customers being able to download JMP 17 soon via My.JMP.com and experience all the new features. It won’t be long now!
Thanks very much to Tonya Mauldin for sharing this week’s Beta/Crash/Telemetry report with crashes selected.

JMP Live
- Aurora: 18.0: Bug fixes, performance improvements. Miscellaneous: Working on the plan for moving JMP Live to Git.
- Michael G: 17.1 Bug fixing. Building UI proposals from user study data.
Statistics
- John Sall: Contributed to JMP-wide webcast. Partition - Fix ROC for special case (JMP-14302). Added One-click sorts for reports (JMP-14238, JMP-14239, JMP-14243, JMP-14244, JMP-14245). Explore Outliers now respects Excluded in change high nines to missing (JMP-13973). Nonlinear prevent crash on window close while iterating (JMP-14305). Response Screening has better scripts in 2-by-M saved table (JMP-11952).
- Laura C-S: Fixed some bugs that improve usability of the Model Comparison table in SEM, such as making sure model names are unique, that users can revise model names even after models have been fit, and that table customizations are remembered. I’m also preparing a presentation for Discovery Japan.
Stat Documentation
- Michael C: Continued work on 17.1 updates in the doc for various platforms; responded to a question from a translator; attended first Jira admin group meeting.
- Karen: Keeping up with small edits during this 17.1 phase for docs.
Stat Testing
- Jacob: Working with Mark Bailey, Ryan Lekivetz, and Bryan Fricke on coming up with ideas to help with Easy DOE pain points identified at Discovery. Created a JSL prototype to help address these pain points. Working on a script for a DOE Factors UI prototype. Adding performance files to automatically re-run failing test cases.
- Tonya: Working on bug verification and service cloud reporting.
Product Management
- Bryan: Greg Kraus indicated SAS would not continue to update VPATs for JMP. For now, I plan to update the version number in existing VPATs with new product numbers until we make noticeable improvements in terms of accessibility. Continued to participate in ideation sessions with JMP Live, WFB teams, JMP Search, and EasyDOE teams and hope to have some prototyping usability sessions soon. Met with JMP UX Workstream to review a revised bivariate usability script. Had some conversations about WinUI; my thought is that WinUI is critical for improving the look and feel of JMP and also relates to accessibility issues.
Development Operations
- Bob: Prepared employee download files and page for 17.0. Met with John Schroedl to discuss changes for 18 involving Windows registry and other folders when we remove "SAS". Started work and discussion for design of Clinical updaters on Windows. Published JMP 18 dates page.

- Shannon: Entered Jira issues for mystery crashes, with test case help from Dave B and Dan S. Meetings with PM about Jira usage for wish list and prioritization. Meeting about Jira/Confluence user acceptance testing next week.
Documentation
- Susan C: Continued working on Confluence Doc space revamp. Updated copyright dates in all books. Assisted with help issues. Still working on alternative fixes to cut-off equations. Created help key training slides and gave training.

System/Host Testing-Cary
- Mandy: Adding actions to Workflow builder presentation for October. Opened Jira issues for problems reported in several (4) TS tracks. Testing and verifying 18.0 issues, so they can be fixed at 17.1. Josh: JMP Live Story and Bug verification, Server maintenance - started to move the machine called JMPLiveRelease to AWS. The server has been built and it is running. I’m just waiting on confirmation that we are going to keep the same domain name before we switch over. Worked with some folks in Japan that were trying to publish to some of servers here in the US. They are seeing slow response times. This seems to be due to network latency. I have opened a bug to see if there are any improvements we could do to make this better in a later JMP Live release.
- Nick H: Worked on some tests for improvements made to the subbox and window scrolling and support for class methods <
- Mike M: Updates to Sikuli tests for maps. Opened several new Jiras covering: Dashboard encryption, Formula Editor layout not being applied, HTML error bars shifted, report property updates not saved to JSL. Verifying JMP 17 and 18 issues. Newly published JMP HTML L10N Help docs tested for 17.0 release. I’m also working to update and submit my JMP Discovery paper on Formula Editor deep dive.
Data Discovery
- Dave B: Updated jmprunner with the new jmp install path, added a recall button for MFI, changed MFI so that it will match columns in different orders when stacking tables, added a manage rules button to the tablebox Numeric Format dialog to make it easier to delete old conditional highlighting rules, and created a test case for a control chart builder crash.
- Evan: Working to expose some of Term to JSL. Investigated user-defined function Nonlinear crash. JMP Search usability ideation and prototypes. Working to make the transition from JMP Search to selected platform items smoother. Refactoring of platform launcher and platform launch code towards that end.
- Dan S: Session updates to use $SAMPLE_DATA paths and prepare for more use cases for script generation. Updated platforms to remove the stored parent box. Removed confusing error report in Term when all values are missing. More work on scrolling messages from JSL.
