You can now define a text column as a column of hyperlinks using the Event Handler column property. For example, you can create a column of geographical data as links to a Google map, or include links to Wikipedia pages.
The quickest way to see this in action is to open the SAS Offices.jmp sample data table accessed from the Help menu in JMP 14.
[On Screen]
Help > Sample Data Library > SAS Offices.jmp
After Right-clicking the City column and select Column Info.
Notice that the Event Handler column property has been added.
What makes the Event Handler powerful and handy is once you set up this Column property you don't have to customize each link for each unique Row. It applies the link structure to the entire Column and Concatanantes, or joins it, with each unique Row of data creating a custom string.
In this example, the first Column in this Data Table links the Country to Wikipedia, and the 5th Column uses the Event Handler to link that unique City to Google Maps.
So I'll create a 6th Column and link all of the cities to Wikipedia because we don't have that linked yet.
I'll double-click a blank Column header to create a new Column.
I'll then select the Cities Column and Copy these Cities, Edit Copy, then Edit-Paste into my new Wiki City Column.
Notice the Row values don't have hyperlinks yet.
To add those, I'll Double-Click again to bring up the Column info. I'll rename the Column to "City Wiki Info" and Choose Character for the Data Type.
Then I'll set the Data Type to Character then under Column Properties select Event Handler.
It's in this Event Handler script is where I'll add the Wiki URL. Making sure that it ends with the forward slash because the Event Handler will join the Row data.
I'll paste the Wiki URL in the in the first part of the Web Function in quotes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/
And then Concat or join this to the remainder the script with the two vertical Concat lines.
Now I'll select apply and Ok.
Now by selecting the Cities in this new Column, it launches the unique Wiki pages for that Row of data.
Follow the links below to learn more about hyperlinking to even internal files on your computer.
I hope you find hyperlinking helpful in your JMP projects.
