I know just how frustrating that is and have done it myself a number of times! I just shared an Add-In in the File Exchange that I've been using for a while to do just what you suggested (and behind the scenes it exploits the log, just as @hogi mentioned). I hope this will help you until there is another method available.

Reopen/restore the last closed windowToo many times I have accidentally closed a window/analysis then 2 seconds later realized I wasn't quite done with it. Yes, I could use recall to redo it quickly, but would really like to be able to press a button and restore the last thing I closed.
