Loading SAS7BCATI understand from How can I open or access SAS format files of type SAS7BCAT as a JMP user and How to render a SAS file using a SAS formats library that it JMP can't directly load SAS7BCAT files without a connection to a SAS server. This seems really strange. I can use JMP to import value labels from non-SAS file formats like SPSS, but not from SAS's own format unless I am connected to the P&G VPN so I can log in to a SAS server, figure out where the data are stored that were used to create the SAS7BCAT file that was e-mailed to me, so I can then transfer that data through the SAS connection?
Fortunately in this case I also have the SAS program itself with the PROC FORMAT so I can write an add-in to parse the PROC FORMAT; VALUE VARNAME ...; ... RUN; block into value labels in this case, but I may not always have this.
I'd like to have the ability to bring this over, please. We don't use it often, so it is a low priority item, but it simply makes sense to have it. Thanks!
Data AccessRe: Loading SAS7BCAT - Status changed to: Not Planned For NowRe: Loading SAS7BCATThanks @Jeff_Perkinson . For some reason I found that I had to use a FMTLIB statement in the PROC EXPORT with the specific SAS code I had, but it worked.
Passed along to my colleague who was having trouble with this and it worked for him too.
I would say the JMP version of this is Not Already Offered, but given that we have a SAS workaround, it would be a very low priority. Thanks.
Re: Loading SAS7BCATThis is complicated because a SAS format catalog doesn't have any information about the variables (columns) the formats should be applied to. We'll look into it and see if there's anything creative we can do but it could involve prompting for a catalog when opening a SAS file that has formats applied but, if the catalog you specify doesn't have all the formats we're a little stuck and could make the simple act of opening a SAS data set a complicated process.

Another possible fix (rather than JMP being able to open the SAS7BCAT) would be for PROC EXPORT in SAS to be able to include the formats and write them out as value label properties into the JMP file that SAS creates?
This is already the case. PROC EXPORT will add Value Labels properties to columns with custom formats.

Re: Loading SAS7BCATIn conversation, I found out this has been separately reported (not by me) under support tracks: 7613086420 and 7613125333.
