For the past 20 years, International Day of the Programmer has highlighted innovative contributions of programmers on the 256th day of the year (a special number indeed). We all benefit from the work of people coding behind the scenes. But at JMP we put our R&D staff front and center!
Thank you to Allison Hines (@AllisonHines) for preparing these quote tiles, which you'll see on JMP's social media channels throughout the day. Be sure to like and share.
What's your most-used productivity hack?
"Before I start on a big new project, I try to study the code of others who have already created something great in JMP for possible tips and tricks."
--Laura Lancaster, Principal Research Statistician Developer (@Laura_Lancaster)

Explain your job to a 5-year-old.
"Imagine when you play with a dog. You train it sit after you say ‘sit,' and it would come to you after you call their name. I do similar things with a computer, where I talk with it using a language that it understands. It will do things when I ask it to. But sometimes it doesn’t listen to me and throws bugs to me, just like sometimes the dog doesn’t listen to you."
--Meichen Dong, Research Statistician Developer (@MeichenDong)

"I build tools on the computer for people working to cure cancer, repairing dying ocean reefs, and who design better solar panels. And, for lots of other scientists and engineers."
--Annie Zangi, Senior Research Statistician Developer (@annie_zangi)

What is your favorite JMP feature?
"Easy DOE is the most recent platform that I have done for JMP. It is a “one of a kind” tool that encapsulates the entire DOE workflow, from design through analysis, with support for multiple personas, as well as support for collaboration, through a .jmpdoe filetype."
--Joseph Morgan, Principal Research Statistician Developer (@Joseph_morgan2)
"Since I am more of a 'try it' kind of person as opposed to a 'read about it' kind of person, I have great appreciation for the Scripting Index."
--Myron Chandler, Principal Systems Developer (@Myron-JMP)
What's the best concert you've ever been to?
"The best concert I've been to is a band called Mayday. Their songs are 99% in Chinese, and all encouraging and energetic. I’ve been a fan of them for many years and being able to see them in person felt like a dream come true."
--Meichen

"The One Love Peace Concert, sometimes described as the 'Third World Woodstock.' Headlined by Bob Marley at the peak of his career and just two years before his death, it is considered to be one of the most consequential concerts, not only because of its musical significance, but also because of its political significance. Of course, I was too young to appreciate its significance at the time."
--Joseph

Star Trek or Star Wars?
"Definitely Star Trek. I still think cell phone companies need a way to make those communicator pins. Plus transporters!"
--Annie

"Both – but Star Trek edges out Star Wars because throughout all the series I’ve watched since the original, it has pointed a path towards a better society."
--Myron
