Welcome to the JMP Development Update for September 9, 2022!
We are nearing the end of our installer validation period for JMP 17.0 products releasing in October and are heading towards signoff. Thanks for all the work this week triaging items that were tagged 17.0:OPEN! Any remaining source code bugs that have a Fix Version value of 17.0:OPEN will be updated to 18.0:OPEN next week.
Thanks very much to JMP Life Sciences genetics developer Luciano Silva for presenting at this week’s JMP Dev meeting! Luciano showed off the new Marker Simulation platform in JMP Pro, which improves upon functionality present in the last version of JMP Genomics. The platform provides simulation capabilities that save plant breeders significant time and money when selecting the best lines for selective breeding to optimize desirable traits. If you missed his presentation, you can find a downloaded copy of the recording in this folder: \\d73817\Public\Dev Meetings\ or download the recording from Sharepoint here.
Next week we’ll host the in-person part of JMP Discovery Cary in the EBC. Hope to see some of you there! If you’re unable to be there in person, in a few weeks there will be sessions online that you can also join to hear about what our customers are up to with our products.

JMP Live
- Aurora: 17.1: Fixed folder previous/next navigation for posts with identical timestamps. 18.0: Various bug fixes. Created a new notification type, for getting your personal space assigned. Miscellaneous: Created a proposal for the Desired JMP Live Developer Experience with Git
Statistics
- John Sall: For genetics models, grouped continuous random effects can have thousands of columns, so now the Fit Model dialog for Response Screening has a Random Group list that uses column group names rather than specifying each column (JMP-14042). Fixed Fit Response Screening for missing value handling switch variables for Robust cases (JMP-14087). Fix for "Fit Response Screening" for misalignment of rows used wrt missing-values for effect size calculation (JMP-14049).
- Jianfeng: Completed the feature request from customers to add the Joncheere-Terpsta test to both Contingency and Oneway platforms (JMP-7940). David Elsheimer has verified the implantation. Currently working on other feature requests by customers.
- Laura C-S: Planning Ken Bollen’s attendance to Discovery. Started working on adding Freq and Weight to the launch dialog of SEM as a preliminary step to adding boostrap capabilities.
Stat Documentation
- Michael C: Reviewed stat strings extracted in the first StringBot runs of 17.1 and 18.0; addressed multiple doc Jiras in the BA book; tested the NIST validation ZIP file to be uploaded to jmp.com for 17.
Stat Testing
- Mark: Analyzed results from second usability test of Easy DOE. Conducted third usability test of Easy DOE. Prepared scripts for Usability Lab at JMP Discovery Summit. Developed solutions to top pain points identified in usability studies. Evaluated prototypes of new response and factor lists in DOE for Peng. Reviewed new example in documentation of Equivalence Test in Contingency for Michael. Answered questions in JMP Community.
- Jacob: Investigating unit test failures in ADI and Blas routines. Writing tests for ‘Make Enhanced Table’ in Design Explorer and testing a pending change for MSA Design. Participating in UI/UX workstream.
Life Sciences Updates
- Meichen: Added UMAP method to the Multivariate Embedding platform.
Technical Support
- Duane: My team is preparing for our responsibilities with the Discovery Summit: JSL Unsessions, Meet-the-Expert sessions, etc. Additionally, Wendy and I met with the folks in the SAS Customer Engagement Center to continue with our plan of reducing our dependency on them. Cases continue, as always, too!

Development Operations
- Jim: Confirmed (and updated) all mac operating system versions, per the IT directive, for all build and test machines (security update). Excluded OLE automation UT script from all daily runs since it is being performed by the Beijing team; thank you Nala! Investigate low/no application memory problem on all JMP 18.0 mac testing machines. Jira verification and Perforce support.
- Myron: Fix/update stringbot main and 17.1 runs. Work on timeout/crash distinction in test runs (JMPTOOL-415, JMPTOOL-195). Work on background DB for JMP-12704 telemetry.
Documentation
- Susan C: Working mainly on 17.0 Jiras for JMP Live and any JMP Jiras assigned to me. I have gone through them all, so the only ones remaining for 17.0 are actively being worked on, mostly to do with Help.
- Chris B: Finished getting the noindex updated in all the 15.2 help. Working on getting the “Latest Help” banner in place. Trying to figure out why some of the links in our PDF doc don’t work.
System/Host Testing-Cary
- Audrey: Testing teams have essentially finished JMP 17.0 Installer Testing for JMP and JMP Live. I’ll send a wider announcement next week after all final-final details are completed. Participated in a review of the ClearVision Risk Assessment of our migration to Atlassian Cloud, performing some prep tasks ahead of that migration.
- Nick H: Working on installer testing for JMP 17, during which I found a broken link in the about JMP dialog. Working on verification and adding relevant tests to the framework. Helped create data tables for each user who had failing unit tests that were related to open Jira’s in JMP 18 so that they can take a look and move them to the 18 track if needed – this helps to ensure that issues are properly marked as ‘known’ for the 18 run. In the future we will try to create a report of these Jira issues that can be run frequently.
- Mike M: Finished installer testing. Opened several defects, still need to open about 4-5 more (no show-stoppers). Catching up on unfinished verifications for 17.0, 17.1 and 18.0.
- Mandy: Finished up 17.0 installer testing; Went back and started working on 18.0 and 17.1 JIRA fixes, trying to verify them and get tests added; met to prep for Discovery panel discussion next week on workflows. Tested new Mac jmprunner changes for Chris H.
- Hunter: Completed JMP 17 Final Installer testing, investigated JMP 17 EA 9 issue and opened JMP-14080 for a crash when opening a report with a missing JMP AddIn, and attempted to reproduce several CRPs.
- Josh L: Completed JMP and JMP Live 17.0 Installation testing. JMP Live 17.1 and 18.0 testing plans. Creating confluence documents to answer frequently asked questions. Building servers for JMP Live 17.1 and 18.0 testing. JMP Live 17.1 and 18.0 database installation testing.

- Caleb: Fixed some open tickets related to duplicate factor names in the DOE platforms. I also worked on an update to the MSA designs platform that I hope to get into JMP 17.1 and continued work on the Wildtrack project with Sky and Ryan.
- Peng: Continue working on Response & Factor List protypes for DOE. Continue doing research with Bill Meeker. Research on accelerated stability data analysis.
- Brad: Finishing a presentation on computer experiments to give online for Doug Montgomery's DOE class.
Host
- John Schroedl: Various crash investigations including adding a host catch to avoid a crash when the bizarre practice of throw 1;occurs to exit a bad code situation. These situations should probably throw JException instead. More changes to reduce the number of OS calls made when building ClipboardClipping. Thanks to Evan and Dave B. for help with those investigations! Small host scrolling change to better sync scroll increment values.
Note from Shannon
This week marked the end of an era with the announcement of the death of 96 year old Queen Elizabeth II. One of the most interesting tidbits I noticed in the stream of seemingly endless media coverage related to her military service during World War II before she ascended to the throne. Then-Princess Elizabeth enlisted in the Auxiliary Territorial Service at the age of 18, much to her father’s dismay, working as a mechanic and driver. Fortunately for her, she did work close enough to Windsor Castle to avoid the need to bunk at the training camp! If you’d like to read more about her service, here’s an article that covers some of the history.
Have a great weekend!
